I have to admit that yesterday was possibly one of the best birthdays I've yet to experience in these thirty-eight years. (The four hundred that I skipped over do NOT count ( Read more... )

What does that mean, "Something like that"?

Did any of the gods you kill come back as zombies?

Ha! No. When I kill, they stay dead. Even so, there is nothing miraculous about the undead.

Well I think supposedly Buddha and Jesus were miraculous in their life too.

So are a great many people I know today. What sets them apart from the rest then?

Hm. It was my pleasure. ♥

I know very little of this holiday everyone has been going on about. It doesn't seem as though I'll be finding any reliable sources on it, either. Though it seems to me as if the genesis of the holiday has been muddied a bit because of cultural transmissions overlapping each other. It's quite possible that both of your books are correct, and that the holiday as we have encountered it is a blending of the two. I would normally, at this juncture, give a general invitation for others to correct me if I'm wrong, but in this case I fear being given quite a bit of misinformation should I do so.

I am led to understand that your assumption is correct. The celebration, certainly, is an amalgamation of elements; eggs and rabbits represent Spring and fertility, but from whence anyone decided that a giant rabbit hides brightly-colored eggs for children to find as a contest is beyond me to know. I assume the original idea wasn't fun enough.

I suppose you're right. A majority of holidays, even our own, tend to have certain elements which are added simply for the fun of it, rather than for any sort of symbolic meaning or reverence.

I've long felt that Christmas has gotten far out of hand.

It occurs to me that I never actually wished you a happy birthday, so consider this a belated rectification of that.

I'm curious, now: how did your people celebrate birthdays?

To be honest, it is not terribly unlike how we celebrated this one!

We did not give gifts, though, but generally the whole village participated.

How many people were there, generally, to a village?

Okay. So Not Applying Science To OP. fireofshandora April 18 2009, 03:55:38 UTC
We only had one village, and none but Norla lived in Shandora.

Before the Tree Fever, we numbered in the several hundred. After that, our numbers were lowered drastically.
