I don't know much about human pride, nor why you fight. But a friend of mine said once that "If you died, pride woulnd't matter". Because even if they remember you, I'm sure your friends would rather have you near them.
You know I feel just as torn as you. I'm proud, and grateful, that you would stand up for what little honor I have left. I'm also terribly angry because you could have left me forever without giving me the benefit of a goodbye, or at least the opportunity to stand by you in your battle.
But there's the thing, you see. It isn't your battle to fight. It is mine. This war began long before you came into our lives, and is, for the most part, coming to a close. There is no need for you to risk your life on something so lowly. There are larger enemies and stronger foes ahead of us. This crew has no small task, and it will require everything from everyone. Do not concern yourself with the pitiful mewling of a former pirate who, now beaten, has dedicated his life to farming. Let him stay in his little corner of the Grand Line. We sail for broader horizons.
But I did not leave you, and I do not plan to. I understand now.
But your battles are mine, Robin. We are are nakama, and much more. I realize now, though, that life with you, with Norland, with these pirates, is not worth that man.

But you are right, and so are they. To die would simply be giving up, which I refuse to do.

It's good that you are okay.

I will be fine. I have tempted death more than once.
Thank you for your kindness.

Living is the challenge, I've discovered. Death would be the easy path.

And... thank you.

It is I who should be thanking you.
