Sungmin had been planning to spend his night alone at home watching movies. That was until Shiwon called him up and said that there was going to be an amazing singer at the club tonight, and Sungmin should not miss it. If there was one thing Sungmin liked it was a good singer. Shiwon was very picky about voices though. He refused to listen to the radio because he hated most of the ‘singing’ (or at least that’s what they call it) that was played on the stations. Shiwon’s friends all knew to let him pick the music, lest they pick something he didn’t like. He wouldn’t say anything but it would put him in an irritable mood for the rest of the day.

Sungmin was aware of Shiwon’s music snobbery so he was sure that if Shiwon told him that this singer was amazing, that he probably was. Sungmin hadn’t been to the club in awhile so he had to dig to the back of his closet to pick something presentable.

When Sungmin finally made it, it was just the same as he remembered. Grey, bleak walls, dim lighting, cigarette smoke drifting from the bar, and poor air-conditioning. He skimmed the back wall looking for Shiwon, trying to ignore the heat. He noticed someone waving to him from the shadowy corner and it took him a couple of seconds to realize that it was Shiwon, accompanied by Hankyung. “You’ll like him, he sings lot’s of jazz.” Shiwon promised once Sungmin was within earshot.

“Well, if the music snob likes him I’m sure he’s fantastic.” Sungmin said this with a teasing hint in his voice. The stickiness was starting to bother him; his dark blue button down shirt starting to feel a little to constricting. Shiwon rolled his eyes far too used to these comments to take offense, while Sungmin undid the first couple of buttons on his shirt.

“It’s called having good taste.” He said while Hankyung laughed behind his hand, as if Shiwon couldn’t tell the other was amused. “But I’m serious. This guy is really good. We were friends in high school. Just wait ‘til he comes on, you’ll see.” Sungmin thought that this guy better be as good as Shiwon says he is, if he dragged his ass out of his apartment, into this air-conditioned forsaken place for a shit performance, he would be pissed.

Shiwon and Hankyung talked excitedly while Sungmin pouted and brooded about the heat. It was then that someone caught Sungmin’s eye. His eyes widened, and the lack of air-conditioning was quite forgotten. In the center of the small stage, by the piano, was the most extraordinary man Sungmin had ever laid his eyes on. He was wearing a loosed fitting black suit with the tails of his white button down shirt untucked and the first two buttons were left unbuttoned; Sungmin briefly wondered if this was because the heat had gotten to him as well, though Sungmin wasn’t that much aware of the heat at all anymore. He had a black tie lying loosely under the collar of his shirt and he wore a pinstriped fedora on top of his bleach blonde hair. He couldn’t make out the details of the man’s face from were he was standing, but Sungmin was sure that they were extraordinary.

Sungmin was vaguely aware of Shiwon elbowing him and saying, “That’s him.” Frankly Sungmin didn’t really give a damn about anything Shiwon had to say right now. The man sat down at the piano while someone announced that the one Cho Kyuhyun was about to perform. Sungmin tested the name out on his own mouth, and he found that he quite liked the way it sounded.

Then the man began to play. The man’s finger moved gracefully across the piano, playing a soothing melody; a couple measures later, the piano was joined by a soft bass and an equally demure drum. Sungmin was quite far gone by this point and was only pushed into this new world when the man began to sing.

Sungmin thought that if he could possibly create a perfect voice, this would be it. Smooth and rich and everything a voice should be. This was what this man possessed. He started out soft and then his voice, as well as the piano grew into a crescendo in the middle of the song. Sungmin felt a sudden loss when the song ended. God, he was good.

“Sungmin, you okay?” It took Sungmin a couple of moments to realize that Hankyung was shaking him. He brushed Hankyung's hands of his shoulder and nodded. “What did you think?” Sungmin looked up to see Shiwon smirking, with a knowing look on his face.

“Oh, I think Sungmin really enjoyed it, or him. I’m not sure exactly which.” Sungmin smacked Shiwon’s head while muttering under his breath.

“You were right, he’d good. But I’ve heard better.” Sungmin turned around and left the club. That was a lie. Sungmin had never been so enraptured by a single performance in his life, but he was sure it was more then just the performance that had caught his attention. It scared the shit out of him, quite frankly.

Sungmin spent the nest day in his college classes daydreaming about the man who sang, Cho Kyuhyun. He wanted to stop, really, but he couldn’t. It was like his mind had been possessed. It was with this mindset that he found himself at the club again that night. Shiwon just smirked and said something along the lines of ‘did you see something you liked last night?’ but Sungmin merely ignored him and took his place on the back wall.

When this Cho Kyuhyun walked on to the stage the same feeling rushed over Sungmin. Something about Kyuhyun drew Sungmin in; it was like Sungmin was possessed or something of that nature. After Kyuhyun was finished Sungmin left, and so his pattern began. Wake up, go to class, go to the club, watch Kyuhyun (the best part of his day), go home, sleep, and repeat.

This went on for a couple of weeks until Shiwon dragged him backstage before Sungmin could leave after Kyuhyun’s performance. “He asked me about you, you know?” Sungmin couldn’t quite hold in the shiver of pleasure at the thought of Kyuhyun noticing him. Sungmin had to jog to keep up with Shiwon’s brisk pace, until they finally reached backstage; it was just as dim, grey, and poorly air-conditioned as the rest of the club. Shiwon stopped at one of the few doors that lined the wall and knocked a couple of times.

After a couple of seconds someone opened it and when Sungmin looked up he thought he must’ve forgotten how to breathe for he felt rather faint. Standing right in front of him was Cho Kyuhyun; the very man whom he had become positively enchanted by. He had on the same clothes that he had the first time Sungmin saw him, only the fedora and tie was missing, he noticed that they were on the desk in the small dressing room. Kyuhyun saw Shiwon and smiled. “Here he is, have fun.” With that said, Shiwon pushed Sungmin in the cramped dressing room, practically on top of Kyuhyun, shut the door, and left.

Needless to say, Sungmin was mortified. “..um. hi.” Smooth Sungmin, real smooth. Kyuhyun was even more entrancing close; Sungmin could finally make out his strong facial features and his deep brown eyes. Kyuhyun smiled at Sungmin’s nervousness and backed away, as to make Sungmin less panicked.

“Shiwon told me that you’ve been coming to every performance since I’ve been here.” Sungmin decided that the world could do without Shiwon and was thus forth planning his death. “He says you leave right after my performance though.” Shiwon’s death would be very painful and slow.

“Well, I have morning classes so I can’t really stay that long, and I do enjoy your performance.” That was the understatement of the year. Sungmin had become obsessed with Kyuhyun’s performance, or rather, Kyuhyun himself. Not that Sungmin would admit that out loud.

Kyuhyun smiled really wide and Sungmin’s heart skipped a beat or two. “I’ve never had someone come to just see my performance. It’s nice.” Sungmin couldn’t think of a reason why someone wouldn’t come just to see Kyuhyun, though he supposed that not everyone was obsessed with Kyuhyun the way that he himself was.

They talked for a couple of hours after this, until Sungmin looks at the clock that hung on the grey wall. “Shit, I gotta go, I have morning classes tomorrow.” Kyuhyun’s smile fell a little as he got up and walked Sungmin to the door.

“I’d really like it if you would come back tomorrow.” If Sungmin hadn’t about fainted with pleasure at Kyuhyun’s words he might have noticed the nervous edge of the young singers voice. Sungmin smiled brightly up at the younger man.

“Yeah, I’ll be here.”

And there he was. He was there for the next couple of weeks. He had a new daily pattern. Wake up, go to class, go to the club, watch Kyuhyun, go backstage and talk with Kyuhyun for hours (the new best part of his day), go home, sleep, and repeat. He liked this new pattern A LOT.

At the end of the month Kyuhyun’s contract at the club expired. Sungmin was greatly saddened by this. Kyuhyun laughed when Sungmin said this after his last performance. “It’s not like I’ll never see you again. I do exist out side of this club you know.” While this was common sense it had never really occurred to Sungmin that Kyuhyun was anywhere besides this club.

“I guess, I just never see you outside of here.” Sungmin pouted a little at the truth in this statement. He wanted Kyuhyun, in more ways than one. Kyuhyun laughed at Sungmin’s pout. He reached for his hat on the desk and put it on Sungmin’s head. Sungmin blushed while Kyuhyun reached for Sungmin’s jacket pocket and took out his phone.

He started to type something in his phone; when was finished he put it back in Sungmin’s pocket. He took Sungmin by surprise as he leaned forward and pressed a searing kiss to Sungmin’s lips. Sungmin returned the kiss with equal enthusiasm and pressed himself as close to Kyuhyun as he possibly could. It was one of the hardest things Kyuhyun had to do, but he pulled away from Sungmin and headed for the door. “Call me sometime, my number is in your phone. I’d really like to see you again.”

When Kyuhyun left the room Sungmin was still in shock. He would have to thank Shiwon sometime. He would for sure be calling Kyuhyun to hang out tomorrow night.
