Could you show me where you found that? I, too, use NoScript and am annoyed with this crap (I've taken to triple-clicking links on LJ; I didn't even realize what the problem was). Between that and the new click-through ads on the site (you know, the ones that require flash so that I can no longer read certain LJ pages from my phone, because it opens the ads up and then doesn't support the way to close them), I'm about ready to migrate my account to a different blogging service.

I basically just did a quick google search for outboundlink.me because I could see that NoScript and RequestPolicy were blocking it. The first link that I clicked on was this one:

http://everysecondtuesday.dreamwidth.org/57374.html

They have links to some discussion about the script and how to get around it. About all I "know" about this is what I read there ... most of the technical details about exactly what the script is doing are beyond me so once I figured out how to click links within LJ again I stopped searching for information.

I have not actually seen any ads on LJ (probably because I also have AdBlock).

Yeah, I only see them on my phone and my work computer because I, too, use AdBlock on my personal computer. When you load certain pages, a dark blue box pops up over most of the screen and tries to play a flash ad. If your browser doesn't support flash (like my phone), the easiest way to skip the ad seems to be to reload the site and hope it doesn't show up again.

Thanks for telling me about RequestPolicy; I've just installed it.

Any suggestions on where to find a trusty webhost? I think it's time I migrated my blog over to my own domain and my own software so that I can ensure this kind of dickery doesn't happen on my stuff again.

I am asking around ...

One thing that I like about LJ is that you can set the privacy settings on your blogs. The reason why it works here is that so many people are members. I cannot think of another place where you could do the same thing. One of my friends has a tWAS fansite that has mostly become just a place for us to talk and he has made it a private forum, but it has a very different feeling compared to a personal blog.
