Might as well throw in a silly little editorial. Wasn't planning on seeing this one really, just kinda "happened". For any interested, here's a brief reflection ( Read more... )

Ah! So I'm not the only one who felt that way about the characters! I thought FN was pretty in a lot of ways, but the characters didn't do it for me somehow. Marlin was too Tom Hanks-y, which would be fine except that I know it wasn't Tom Hanks doing the voice, and that Tom Hanks HAS starred in other Pixar films before.

I don't get why everyone loves Dory so much; when they first introduced the short-term memory loss, I got kind of annoyed. I guess I just don't find memory loss to be a funny plot point, because it's more wearying for me to follow along with than cute or clever. (I make an exception for Memento, because the whole point of that movie was how fucked-up everything was by the fact that the main character remembers nothing. Something tells me that a cute Pixar film is not supposed to come across as fucked-up... just a hunch. ;P)

Personally I liked Finding Nemo. I thought the characters worked well together. Yes most of the characters weren't built up strongly but then again most of the characters were only there briefly and all you got of them was what Marlan needed to know. It seemed more like a slice of life..my point - if you are looking for something you don't bother getting an entire background history and build the character up of everyone you talk to, and you do segmently walk up to people and then leave them. You weren't even slightly wondering what would happen to the fishtank fish ( ... )

Well for the most part I agree with you. AS a Disney film I expect the sappy touchy feely moralizing that occured. Though like Misty I do want to know if the other fish got out of their plastic baggies... The animation was great I thought even if the storyline was simply another recycled bunch of moralistic crap. The fart humor though is also what kids like whether its the almost saying shit, the bubbles next to the stork after the explosion making the little girl octopus "ink" or the adult on inking when Bruce dropped Dory of. I was not attatched to any character, and I know I can be cuz i am still stuck on Stitch. Overall for me I wish I had spent my money on something else and rented this one.
