Have read both versions. Reminds me a bit of the movie "Gallipoli" (in a good way). Very poignant.

Thanks :o). I was so suprised when I read your comment - I actually based the original story on that movie, as I had to write that story for school was I was 12 (the original version, I didn't start reading HP until I was 15). It was a lot crappier then, but I do believe you're the only person whose ever mentioned that movie in relation to this story.

Egypt was the give-away.

I remember watching the movie over several Social Studies classes in (I think) Year 9, and I remember team sports (AFL? Rugby? Cricket? I forget what, exactly) in Egypt, and that whole running analogy which you thankfully didn't use. :)
