[ Hashirama is happy to be here. He is in the one place he had always wanted to be, and not up a stage preaching politics and scamming the masses like his forefathers had done. He was a teacher, which was a much nobler profession than politics. ]

[ The man stands in front of one of the windows in the classroom assigned to him, peering out through ( Read more... )

[The word written on the board immediately piques Neji's interest. He has a feeling he might like this class...]

What about conflict?

[ Still not turning from the window, Hashirama smiles. ]

Are you familiar with Karl Marx?

[ Although he signed up to teach History, he was very much aware that he would end up teaching a good deal of sociology and philosophy along with it. They were, after all, interrelated. ]

The Conflict Theory is attributed to him.

[ Hashirama finally moves from his spot and makes his way to the desk in front of Neji's. Leaning against the edge of it, he continues: ]

Marx posited that there would always be conflict, a struggle, between socioeconomic classes. He also seemed to encourage this conflict. It was a good thing, apparently, this friction between classes.

[ Have a smile, Neji~ ]

What do you think? Would you agree with him?

.... ♥♥♥~ [Oh snap. Neji just found his new favorite teacher.]

I am familiar with him and the conflict theory, yes. I believe it is foolish and insipid to idealize a world in which there is no conflict. There will always be struggles between people, whether they be of different socioeconomic classes as you just stated or not. It is the way of man. Do I think it is a good thing? Well, it does establish pecking order, absolutely...

I think whether it is good or not is up to the interpretation of the individual of which you are asking the question. And my opinion of it is rather mixed. I can see where it has its benefits, but there are also negatives, as well.

[ He's nodding in approval through Neji's entire answer there, quite impressed, and rather happy about the fact that somebody is aware of Karl Marx and his famous theory. ]

Mmm. It is foolish to idealize a world without conflict.

[ Gets off the table and walks over to the board, writing down the word communism underneath CONFLICT and draws a connecting line between them. ] Communism used a lot of the ideals from Marxism in the beginning, aiming to establish a stateless, classless society. A society without conflict. Utopia.

Now, what's wrong with this picture? [ He circles the word 'communism' ] Where did they go wrong? If you could try and elaborate with a few examples in history...?

[On his desk, Hashirama will find a stack of brand new textbooks, courtesy of the Library. There is also a little cupcake and a note that says "ENJOY YOUR FIRST DAY HASHIRAMA-SENSEI". Konan always feels the need to properly welcome new colleagues :)]

[ He had noticed the books and, more importantly, the cupcake and the note. At the end of class, he takes a bite out of it and smiles, touched by the gesture. Whoever it was that took the pains to ensure his first day was a pleasant one must be returned the gesture. ]

[ The only clue he had was the stack of books that had the library seal on them. Moving aside most of the heavier textbooks, he picks up one copy - which turned out to be an extra cop of a book that was already there - and gingerly walks over to the pot of Amaryllis he kept near the window of his classroom. ]

[ He selects a pretty one out of the lot and puts it inside cover of the book.

[ You'll find Hashirama standing outside the library in five minutes. He's here to return the book, and return the gesture~ ]

[Konan is in the Library, sat at her desk. All the books are where they should be, and she has no work left to do, so she just sits, idly folding some paper flowers as she stares out of the window, daydreaming]

[ He checks - through the little glass in the door - if there's a class inside, and upon finding the library empty, quietly opens the door and makes his way towards the Librarian's desk. The book and flower are hidden from view. ]

Good morning. [ Have a warm smile, Konan~ ] I hope I'm not disturbing you...?

[ He turns away from the window and greets her with a warm smile himself. ]

Good morning.

[ He takes long strides towards her, and stretches out his hand for a handshake, smiling still. ]

Hashirama, the new History teacher.

[shakes his hand, pleased that it is warm and dry and not a creepy man hand]

Terumi Mei, the new Math teacher here. [smiles] You may call me Mei, if you'd like.

[ Hashirama is nowhere near creepy, uhuh~ ]

Mei. [ He nods approvingly, not only appreciating the firm handshake but also the lady - she seemed cool. ]

Ah, you must be quite the clever one. [ Chuckles ] I never was good with numbers. Things were fine until I got to advanced trigonometry and everything about the binomial theorem to just proving cosine 2-pi theta something plus 2 was equal to tan theta something minus half =____=;; I couldn't figure it out when it got so abstract...

[ And yes, he thinks so too, Obito :3 He thinks everyone around here is really nice, and he sure is happy to be here~ ]

[Sasuke stares at the board, a little bored.]

Theres a lot of conflict in history.[He points out, and hopes that they will be focussing on something interesting. Like the subtle conflict of Roman politics. Or an ancient war between Greece and Persia.

Samurai could be fun too. Sasuke sort of likes history, so he hopes the teacher is good. :>]

Indeed there has been. Conflict, uprising, and consequently, revolution is what has brought us where we are today.

[ He walks up to the board and writes, next to the word CONFLICT, the following phrase: "Vive la revolution" ]

Sounds familiar? [ He smiles, sitting on the edge of the desk in front of Sasuke. ] It's all over t'shirts and posters today. But when was the phrase first coined..?

French revolution. It was part of the catch-cry of the mobs which tore down the feudal system. [He quirks a brow, threads his fingers together, and awaits another question.]
