I had dinner tonight with Dr. Darling. Heh, it was strange when he was my first ex to get a PhD a few years ago and it is strange now that he has an $800,000 grant and will most likely soon be Prof. Darling. I had a really nice time with him. We just caught up on the last 8(!) years. We've been talking over aim since then but it was the first ( Read more... )

I never have thought you were crazy. Till I read "I will move to OC..." WHAT? OC? You are mad! It's, like, hot down there! Only way I'd move to the OC is if I had a space suit. A nice one though, with neat little LEDs on the outside! And speakers!

haha. oh don't worry. I never said that I would move to the OC. I said that my dad wants that to happen. But how could I move just after I've started convincing all my close friends to move up here!

I think you just like working, so obviously work wins out over other stuff.

Ha. It would be more insane to throw away your very promising career in chip design. If the time comes that you're sick of EE and want to make a career change *and* the company has funding, then start working for your Dad & brother. :P And with the way the company is run, you wouldn't even have to move to OC!

I think I only pointed out the not being in love thing 'cuz you had lamented it at some point. If you didn't care, neither would I. :)

None of the relationships you talk about giving up were all that serious anyway. A fulfilling career would obviously trump them. Still, I think some people are fundamentally more prone to being satisfied with life, regardless of the decisions they make. We all have choices, and happiness can come from making the best of a situation regardless of "the right choice." Is there really such a thing anyway?

I think the right choice is just something that you can learn from. I think its kinda healthy to take a step back every once and awhile and make sure that the decisions made still work for you... and if they don't, then you keep that in mind the next time you are in the position to make a similar decision.

I guess I was getting at the fact that were I to be put in a similar situation now, three years after starting at my company, around that time that everyone told me I'd be sick of it and I'd regret my decisions, I'm pretty sure I would still make the same choice.

I love my friends and I enjoy other relationships. But as you say, my career still trumps it all.
