Saturday: Headed to the British Museum nice and early to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibition at 10.30. It’s the first time I have been since the central atrium area was created by incorporating the reading room and covering it all with a glass roof. It’s a fantastic space but there were things about the architectural finishes that I didn’t like ( Read more... )

Okay, slightly jealous! Although, I have to admit, I saw the warriors in the first exhibition they did after China decided to share their discovery with the world, back in the early 80's. I can still remember, though, how amazing it was to stand in front of one of those soldiers. So real and so lifelike, I felt that they would start speaking any moment. So I know how you felt in front of the bearded general!

I wish I could get to see the Tutankhamun exhibition as I love Egyptology and enjoy reading and learning about it quite a lot. I have the book from the '72 exhibition, but I didn't get to see that one. My mom bought the catalog, and I think that was the beginning of my Egyptology craze.

Hello & welcome! I'm very glad that I saw the warriors face to face, and recommend the exhibition if you can get there. I would love to go to China and see the warriors in situ but, from the photos, they are still in their pits and so below the viewing level. It's true that I never expected to feel so connected to the figures.

I grew up with the catalogue to the original exhibition too - as I mentioned, I was taken to it but I was only 3 at the time and don't remember. I have to say that the romans have taken over as my ancient world of choice, but that might have more to do with travelling to Italy! I haven't been to Egypt so maybe it would all change.

Oh, I go back and forth between the Egyptians and the Romans in Britain as my favorite Ancients, with a bit of the Greeks thrown in for good measure. Although that might change soon, since I am about to start reading the Greek historian Herodotus (in translation) out loud to my partner. We got a new illustrated edition, which should be really interesting (especially as I'm of the Alice frame of mind: "What good is a book without pictures!")

Oh, also forgot to mention, I'm also a huge Firefly fan, as well as the entire Jossverse. The man is a genius, that's all I can say! I even liked the Buffy Season 8 comics.
