Everything you wanted to know about Momo (and more) can be found here. Also, if you have any comments, questions, or issues with the way I play Momo, tell me here. All comments are screened, and anonymous commenting is turned on as well.

Character: Hinamori Momo
Series/Fandom: Bleach
Version: Original

Age: Unknown; she is a shinigami and estimated to be around 100 years or so, and her appearance is that of a teenager
Gender: Female
Species: Human/shinigami
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Appearance: Momo is a sweet-looking young girl, but is more plain than some of the other females in the series. She has a petite figure and large brown eyes which are always overflowing with whatever emotion she is feeling at that time. Her hair falls down a little ways past her shoulders, but is almost always tied up with a dainty ribbon in a bun with a cloth wrapped around it. Her bangs fall to the left side of her face.

As far as clothes go, she wears the normal shinigami uniform: a pair of black hakama and a black haori with a white robe underneath. A white sash is tied around the waist, and she wears plain white socks and brown sandals. On her left arm she wears her armband, which has her division number on it.

Personality: Though it may not really seem like it at first, Momo has two sides to her personality.

The side we see the most of (or rather, we know is her regular self) is the one where she isn't facing any true conflict. She is optimistic, kind, gentle and patient. She worries about her friends and fellow shinigami. She is also very honest, and extremely loyal to her captain.

It's the fact that she is so innocent and trusting that gets her into trouble. Momo sees the very best in people and is naive; she doesn't want bad things to happen, or to really dwell on them. She is completely devoted to her captain, who she can go to whenever she has worries or questions, and who has almost cast a spell over her -- she sees him as a man committed to doing good in Soul Society. Almost everyone else has been fooled as well, but it is Momo who makes for the perfect puppet. Thus, when she hears about Aizen's death, she snaps, revealing her other personality.

She can't fully comprehend it, and when she reads the letter that he left for her, all her devotion for him went into carrying out his last request. Momo is a peaceful person and would rather not fight, but when it comes to her captain she would do anything for him, even when he is (supposedly) dead. She had never let Aizen down before, and she wasn't about to start anytime soon.

Momo decides that she will kill her best friend, Toushirou, if that is what Aizen thought was necessary.

However, when she confronts him, she is confused and ends up faltering. Part of her demands that she carries out Aizen's will, and part of her is screaming at her to drop her sword. So she attacks, crying while doing so, and it's obvious that she can't put her all into the fight.

Even after Aizen stabs her and his plot is revealed, Momo believes that Aizen isn't at fault. She is still hoping that there is a chance that he will once again return to the man she believed him to be.

Abilities/Strengths: Momo's zanpakutou is called Tobiume. She hasn't learned bankai yet, so we don't know Tobiume's spiritual enemy, but she has learned shikai. Her release for shikai is "hajike!" (Snap!) and two prongs appear on her sword. With this she fires energy balls, and can fire one large one as well. She is also an expert at kidou.

As for her fighting style, she tends to get emotional and reckless. From the two fights including her that we've seen, it appears that she is better at defense than offense, and with long-range attacks.

Momo's other strengths include her loyalty and determination.

Weaknesses: Her style of fighting isn't the best for close-range attacks. She also hasn't learned bankai yet.

Momo's other weaknesses include her blind loyalty, emotional instability, and Aizen.

History: Himanori Momo joined the Shinou Institute of Spiritual Art when she was young. Before then she lived in Junrinan, District 1 of Rukongai. It is assumed that she lived with an elderly woman who she thought of as a grandmother, and Hitsugaya Toushirou (or at least lived nearby). The two were really close.

At the academy she passed the entrance exams with top marks thanks to her hard work. She befriended Izuru Kira and Abarai Renji. During her first trip to the human world, their team was attacked by a bunch of hollows. While everyone else fleed at Hisagi Shuuhei's orders, Momo stood there for a moment, wondering why. She wasn't about to leave anyone behind, and this was what she was trained to do.

However while fighting the hollows Kira, Renji and her were almost killed. It's Aizen who saves them, and tells Momo that she is brave, but must've been scared. This is when she first meets him, begins to admire him and realizes her goal: to become a member of the 5th division.

The three friends become lieutenants together, then go their separate ways, all achieving high positions. Momo eventually becomes vice captain to Aizen, and couldn't be happier.

Years pass, and the events during Soul Society arc begin to take place.

Momo is the first one to show up at the meeting. She is distressed, saying that Aizen has been acting strange, and doesn't tell her anything anymore.

When Renji leaves to fight Ichigo, Momo is the only one to notice. She tells Kira, and shows him the badge that he left behind in his office. She tells Kira that she was going to tell Aizen, but didn't, because she didn't want to get Renji in trouble. She then quickly says "but Captain Aizen would never do that!" (As in, punish Renji)

When Kira finds Renji, he tells Momo, who is in tears. She stands up to Byakuya when he tells them to put Renji in jail, but Kira stops her, and they both apologize. Gin then appears and Kira goes with him to contact the fourth division.

Toushirou arrives, and Momo yells at him for sneaking up on her. However he becomes serious, telling her to look out for the third division.

Afterwards we find her being told about the special wartime instructions, and she is upset, thinking about how it is better to remain peaceful than carry weapons. She is also troubled about the advice that Toushirou had given her. She thinks about how she doesn't want to fight anyone, then goes to speak to Aizen.

She is nervous at first, but his presence calms her almost immediately. He tells her that Renji is healed and that he is allowed to keep his position. Momo asks if he defended Renji, and he replies that he wasn't the only one. She smiles, and thinks on how everything about him is able to calm her restless spirit, and how lucky she is to be able to serve him.

Momo falls asleep in his room, and when she wakes up she immediately apologizes, only to find that he is gone. Frantically she dresses and takes a shortcut, not wanting to be late to the meeting. However when she turns a corner she finds Aizen's dead body, pinned to the Eastern Holy Wall. She screams and everyone hears her. Immediately she starts having a break down.

Unable to stop screaming, she begins telling herself it isn't real...until Gin appears, calmly asking who is screaming so early in the morning. Toushirou's words come back to her and she snaps, turning from distraught to fierce in a matter of seconds. Kira blocks her and she looks shocked, then asks him to move aside. When he refuses she screams at him, becoming enraged and releases her zanpakutou.

Toushirou interferes and orders both of them to be locked up, and warns Gin that if he causes Momo to shed even a single drop of blood that he will kill him.

Momo is then seen in a holding cell. There are dark circles under her eyes. Rangiku enters, handing her a letter that Aizen had left for Momo. She told her that Toushirou had discovered it, and had ordered Rangiku to deliver it to her. If he hadn't discovered it first it would have been kept as evidence and Momo would have never received it. Rangiku tells her to read it well.

As Momo reads it she begins crying again, then looks shocked. After meditating for a while she becomes determined.

Momo uses bakufuku to break out, and leaves a huge gaping whole in her cell. Momo is tiny and wouldn't need such a space to escape, and it's obvious that she is enraged. She races through the city, clutching Aizen's letter to her, still unable to full grasp the situation.

Right before Toushirou is about to attack Gin, Momo steps inbetween them. She tells Gin that Toushirou is too strong for him to handle, and to leave it to her. She then points Tobiume at Toushirou, who is befuddled.

She tells Toushirou what Aizen explained to her on the letter, and how she must now inherit his will. While she explains tears are running down her face. Her hand is also trembling.

Momo attacks and Toushirou dodges, and yells at Momo to think it through. She says that what Aizen wrote must be true; it was his handwriting, and even if she doesn't want to believe it she must slay him for Aizen.

She then cries that she doesn't know what to do while still attacking him. Toushirou guesses that it must be Gin's doing, and goes to try and attack him. Momo goes to block him. He has no choice but to kick her to the ground and she falls unconscious. However, this is most likely more due to her emotional distress than actual injury.

Gin taunts Toushirou, and they engage in battle.

Afterwards Momo spends time unconscious, and healing.

However when Toushirou and Rangiku leave to stop the execution and investigate things, she breaks the barrier Toushirou had placed around her and follows them. She finds the members of Chamber 46 dead.

Gin arrives, and brings her to the residential district for the 46 chamber. He tells her that she is there to meet someone. It turns out to be Aizen. She can hardly believe her eyes at first. She approaches him, crying from relief, and clutches the front of his haori. He apologizes for making her suffer, but she says that it's alright, that his being alive is enough. Hugging her, he thanks her, and she smiles...

Then Aizen stabs her. And says good-bye. She stares at him in disbelief, managing to say "this can't be..." before collapsing. Gin and Aizen leave her there.

When she eventually wakes up from her injuries and talks to Toushirou, she apologizes for all that she has done. Toushirou tells her to forget about it, and to sleep and get healthy. They joke a bit like they used to before Momo gets serious. She asks Toushirou if he will fight Aizen, and he says yes. She then asks if he will kill Aizen. Before he can answer she asks him to save Aizen.

She starts to get a little scary-looking, quickly saying that she knows what he is doing is bad, but that he must have some reason for doing it -- that he must be under the control of someone else, or being forced. She is then taken away, since she was becoming too distraught.
