She'd
promised Nero that she would speak to his captors. And she would. Despite
what had happened, she truly believed that Nero and Ayel were better off together - for their own quality of life, and especially for Nero's mental health.
But first, she went to visit Ayel. She thought she understood what had happened the night before: following Nero's refusal to take his medication, the hallucinations it kept at bay had returned. He'd attacked Ayel, believing that he was someone else.
She wondered if Ayel understood as much.
And it was an unprecedented opportunity, to speak to him without Nero present.
Ayel's cell was a few doors down the corridor, in the same solitary cellblock. The guards, reassured by her emerging from Nero's cell unscathed, opened the door and let her enter alone.
"Hello, Ayel," she greeted him as the door swung shut behind her.
