"Are we nearly there?" John asked, stopping singing to ask.
"Yes," Ian replied. "If your mother's read the map right." He glanced over to grinn at her, which meant he then nearly missed the turning and had to go from an odd road position. It was just as well there weren't any other cars on the road at that point.

"John? Can you sit on your bottom, please?" Barbara asked and twisted in her own seat to see him better. " I don't want you to fall off the seat if Daddy has to hit the breaks rather suddenly."
"Can I look at the map?" John said as he sat properly. His mother handed it over and continued to watch him as he studied it. "It says that we're going in the wrong direction."
Barbara gasped and looked at Ian as though their four year old son could legitimately read a map. "Did you hear that? We're going in the wrong direction!"

"We turned the this way," John pointed left, "and this road goes that way." He was pointing at the map, so it was hard to tell which road he was looking at.
Ian smiled, knowing that John wouldn't be able to see it. "When I reach the end of the road shall I go the other way?"

"Maybe you have the map upside down," Barbara suggested and turned it around in his hands for him. John studied the map further. He turned it this way and that, then handed it back to Barbara.
"No, I'm right."
