Fridge
She heard her lover unlock the door and Olivia came in, completely soaked. “Oh, is it still raining?” A forced grin was all she got as an answer. Her lover just went into the bedroom. Alex kept sitting on the sofa slightly fidgeting going over her papers again.
A murmuring Olivia strolled back into the living room dressed in dry clothes but with a sour mood. She stopped looked at Alex and tried a smile, a real one this time. “I missed you today!” Alex put her glasses down and opened her arms. “Come here and kiss me, love!” Olivia hurried to get in her lover's arms. To hold each other like this was special to them, more so after being separated for all those damn years. They shared a tender kiss making words unnecessary.
Olivia stood and stretched turning towards the kitchen. She hesitated and asked “Need something? I wanna make a sandwich.” That was the moment Alex had been waiting for all day. Trying hard not to give herself away, she nodded and said “I'd like soda. Thanks honey!” Olivia disappeared. Alex held her breath, waiting, anticipation almost killing her.
Nothing happened. She mentally checked if she had done everything as planned and knew she couldn't have forgotten anything. She sighed and tried to read the paragraph about exhibit three of the defense for the fifth time. Finally Olivia came back and handed her a soda. A warm soda, not out of the fridge.
Taking a deep breath and stopping herself from grinding her teeth she asked “Honey? Why did you bring me a warm one?” Olivia just shrugged sat down and munched away. Alex shook her head and kept on reading. Drinking the damn warm soda, she thought of another reason to send her lover back into the kitchen. Olivia was done with her sandwich and leaned back in the armchair. Eyes closed and totally relaxed she couldn't think of anything but what she wanted Alex to do as soon as she would be done with the case files.
Suddenly Alex cleared her throat and Olivia looked at her. “What is it, Sweety?” “Can you get me some ice? The soda is way too warm.” Olivia was unaware of Alex's nervousness an went to get her some ice. Alex stood and waited. There it was! There was the moment she had been waiting for. Utter silence and tension filled the apartment.
A wide-eyed Olivia came back into the living room holding what Alex had put into the fridge earlier that day. Catching her breath not even noticing that she had held it Alex headed for her lover, stopping midway. Olivia didn't move, just stared at her. Tears filling her eyes. “Oh, Sweety, that is so... so... I-I am speechless!” Alex closed the distance held her lover and said “Just say yes!”
