It's not certain. Either she broken her neck or was unharmed from her jump and escape.

Well, I suppose it could have been either. If she jumped from a rather high point of the house, there wasn't a way to avoid a broken neck.

The story doesn't specify how high, leaving it up for the reader's interpretation.

...You prefer a more gruesome ending? [It's generally more disturbing for the children to think before going to sleep.]
