"Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!" exclaimed Baby bear. What should we do now, Papa Bear?” cried Baby bear close to tears. “The terrible little girl ate our food and destroyed my chair.”

"Well, this little girl looks quite plump. Perhaps we should dine on her for ( Read more... )

It seems like a sensible ending to a story. How does it ordinarily end?

[Finally, someone who appreciates a good ending]

Well, in the original, Goldilocks wakes up to see the bear around the bed and cries help before running down the stairs and escaping the house. She never goes back to the Three Bears house.

[Curious. She expects most people to recognize the story]

You've never heard the story of Goldilocks and the Three bears?

Not by that name at least. There might be some parallel story. But I think any I know would be similar to your variation.

I mean... This girl invades their hive, provides herself sustenance from their supplies, and even sleeps there. But the ordinary story simply has her escaping and remaining safe from then on? Letting your guard down around enemies from whom you've just stolen is a good way to end up culled. What lessons about appropriate behaviors is the original rendition supposed to express?

Yes, odd isn't it? [She shrugs] I'm not sure really. I think it's supposed to tell you not to enter a strangers home and eat their food.

What the hell-that's horrible! That's supposed a children's story, you know!!

firstchildnoah August 12 2011, 21:03:01 UTC
It's not horrible! There are plenty of others stories that are worse.

Well yeah, but not when they're supposed to, well, not morbid!

How could you possibly think that that's better?

I don't know. I think the wicked stepsisters getting their eyes pecked out by pigeons is pretty morbid, but no seems to complain about it.

It's less boring~ I suppose it's a better lesson too! After all, you can't expect to run into a bear and get away unscathed.

...

[He's kind of at a loss of what to do. He's not sure whether to be disturbed or laughing his ass off at the fact that Rhode still sounded like she was reading a normal fairy tale.]

[He hasn't realized he hit reply to this, by the way, so enjoy that nonplussed look.]

[Just because she's evil doesn't mean she spends all her time, well she spends a great deal of time, killing and plotting scheme. She has other things to worry about, you know.

Oh, Rhode is definitely enjoying the look on Kanda's face]

What's wrong Kanda~ You've never heard someone read a fairy tale before?

Wha--

[Oh]

[Oh fuck it was on.]

Tch! Of course I have! [No, he hasn't.] What kind of fairy tale is that, anyway?!

[Really? Rhode highly doubts any of those nice scientist read anything, aside from numbers, to the experiments]

Are you deaf? It's the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Of course, I changed the ending just a bit~

Oi, yer not supposed to go changin' fairy tales like that. It ain't right!

Why not? Plenty of other people change the ends of stories and no one complains.

I'm complainin'! There's a reason a story ends the way it ends! This one's pretty messed up, anyways. Why's a kid like you thinkin' so grim?

It is not the first time I have heard such an ending for that particular story.

Really? [Pouts. She's a little disappointed to know that her ending wasn't original] Many people here seem to think that it's a terrible ending for the story.

It is a logical conclusion, even if it does diverge from the original. The girl took advantage of their empty household, and the bears reacted as bears normally would.
