Wow, I don't know if Seattle has any slums like that. I've managed to stay out of them, anyhow. I was amazed at how, when I left VT, I was all unprejudiced, and then I saw the lower classes and the stupid things they do to themselves, seemingly to keep themselves there, and now it's tough.

Learning the whole bus thing was fun for me, too. The first time I got on a bus was in the wrong direction, and I was headed for an important job thing. I ended up panicking, hiring a cab, and throwing lots of money at the driver in gratitude for pulling my ass out of the fire. The next skill is learning when to give up (you've missed the bus, or it isn't coming) and when to just calm down and be patient. For a long time I wanted to put a watch on an anklet because even though I usually carried one, I sometimes wore a different jacket.

So, have you been seeing people who look like everybody you'd ever known?
