she could have suffered a stroke to the centre in the brain that's responsible for vision. that's all I can think of, given her eyes went simultaneously.
That's a good point, thank you. My first idea was that she had eaten something that had a sympathetic effect like bella donna--but she's an inside cat. Stroke is much, much scarier, but makes more sense. :(
Ah. I'm very relieved to hear that someone else has had this happen, and saw that it was reversible, though I'm sorry to hear about Midnight's health issues. She has an appointment tomorrow morning, so I hope Ginger's vision loss will also be reversible with treatment. Thank you!
So am I. I couldn't think of a mechanism outside of substance ingestion that would cause acute bilateral blindness/pupil dilation like this--I hope it wasn't a stroke. None of her other functions appear to be affected.
Are you certain it was sudden? My Boo Boo went blind slowly but never showed signs of it. We had no idea she was blind until she walked in the mop bucket (it wasn't in its usually spot since mom was mopping)
Oh, sad! You're right; her vision has probably been declining slowly for years. But the change over the past day has been remarkable. When I came home today, she had to feel her way slowly down the stairs to greet me instead of her usual happy bounce. The bumping into walls, doors, and even familiar objects is new, as is the disconcerting blank stare that her dilated pupils give her. She's even getting lost in the hallway, not knowing which direction the next room is in. I feel sorry for her, so I pick her up and place her where she wants to go, but this only disorients her even more. I really hope the vet can help when I take her tomorrow.
By the way, I happened to read your latest post. If you ever decide that you would like another cat lover as a friend, I would love to add you--if only for the sheer pleasure of seeing that precious icon appear on my friends list. :)

That sounds very strange.
I hope that you get some answers, at least, from your vet.

A vet trip is definately a necessity as soon as possible. If she has high blood pressure, you want to get it treated as quickly as possible.
good luck.
