Three Decades

Aug 01, 2006 18:09

I will be thirty years old in seven days. Thirty! How confoundingly bizarre.

To my fellow Leos: lonelywalker, my twin saintmaverick, harleen, childlight, and sylvanelfmistre, I wish you all a fantabulous birthmonth.

Thirty?

::narrows eyes::

Is that allowed?

I'm pretty certain that it isn't. In fact, I've begun implementing a nefarious scheme to alter the space/time continuum to make sure that it isn't.

Heh-heh. I might be able to understand some of the terminology, I think.

Eep, it's hot everywhere today. There was a post on (author) Scott Westerfeld's blog showing heat measurements or some such, and we are currently at the highest ever, and the margin is frighteningly huge.

Damn. And I was freaking out about almost being 20. ;) :D

Baloney with garlic.

In earlier times, the Romans grew wine grapes in Britain...and Norse colonies in Greenland were...agricultural.

Greenland was in fact warmer 1910-1940 than it is now.

Antarctica is snowier than ever, and accumulating ice.

Strong hurricanes occur cyclically. We pay more attention to them now because of tv, weather satellites, and the witless tendency of humans to build on the ocean shore. Read about the "Long Island Express" hurricane that rearranged New England coastlines in the late 1930s. The same storm today would do billions in damage.

The sun is a variable star. Things are warming up on Mars...without a single human to blame.

*shrugs* I should have been clearer. The graph I'm referring to only covers the last 400,000 years. Sorry about that. We are currently at the highest we've been in the last 400,000 years.
I'm not pretending to be an expert or anything, but it looks pretty straightforward to me. The temperature difference is blatantly obvious. Anyway, if you'd like to see the graph I was talking about, here's the link: Graph

You are sooooo much older than I am *g* Happy Birthday in a couple of days!

We had the hottest July since recording times, and even though we are about 2000 km north of Sicily - it was warmer here than there! Since I am unemployed I was actually having fun in the sun, but I am having problems with the ozone and get terrible headaches. Yesterday it rained for the first time within 3 weeks. about 3 drops at least I think.

and doing surgery is even more fun when you have to wear a full-body anti-radiotion suit. I always imagine I am knight then, the retractor is my sword, and I am looking for the Holy Grail (aka where the bloody hell are we right now, and what am I looking at). Not really good for my concentration though since I find myself rather entertaining at times *g*

Hee. Your turn soon, my dear. And thank you!

It's too bad that your headaches are spoiling your fun. We're still waiting for the rain they've been promising us for the past two weeks. It gets dark and windy for a time, but the sun will reemerge soon after. We do need the rain, but I must say that I've missed the sunlight.

Why didn't I think of that? I'll bet imagination would definitely have helped, had I been relaxed enough to try it. Happily, the radiation suit I've never had to do. The closest I've come to it was wearing an apron during a one-day visit to the urology department.

Do you want your knife back, or do you wish to twist and turn it a little bit more?? ;)
And well, not to make you feel old, I still have two years to go, and old is always 15 years older than I am anyway. But I decided to give Anti-Aging-Creme a try, you cannot be cautious enough these days.

I think my imagination might be a little bit to vivid and distracting, but I have learned to suppress the urges to give these images a voice and don't try to explain what certain things remind me of. Or make references to obscure sci-fi shows *g* - how convenient would it be to have Bren's ability in the OR, you could cauterise with your hands. Of course I haven't figured out what would happen to the gloves yet.

It's already tomorrow in Australia, so Happy Birthday!

I love this philosophy. Do let me know how this anti-aging creme works out for you...
