I did one of those ONCE. I managed it by crossing my eyes so hard that I had a headache for the rest of the day.
Now I don't even bother to try.

Ouch. And AHA! I knew it. I propose that the image you believe you "saw" was actually nothing more than a hallucination brought on by eye strain.

THERE IS NO TEAPOT. It is a myth!

Someone mailed me a poster of one about 10 years ago that was supposed to be the starship Enterprise. I still take it out every once in a while, just in case. But no dice so far.

Free your mind. The teapot is there, because there is no teapot. If you immediately know the candle is lit, the meal was cooked a long time ago. Find a few more of these sayings and your eyes will cross to the exact point where you can see the teapot.

Alternatively, move really really close to the screen and then slowly move back until you're about six inches away. Works for me.

Hm. You must have taken the red pill. Moving closer and further away does not seem to make the line-dancing penguins that are there merge into a teapot that isn't. On a positive note, however, the spoon that is not there is beginning to bend.

Is the spoon that is not there bending at an angle of 19.5 degrees?

More. About 25 degrees, I think.
