Hee. I think that's Charlie's favorite form of intimidation when he interrogates people. Anyway, I have just watched Serious Control Issues for a third time, and I've picked up on even more stuff than before. Also, I've realized that I can't watch this episode without very immaturely cracking up when the bad guy (Dean) whispers "I don't copulate." I'm giggling like crazy right now just thinking about it. Oh god. I'm such a 12 year old. Anyway, my love for this episode just keeps growing. It was such a HUGE ep for our lovely partners, particularly for Charlie in regards to how he views Dani. On the surface, Dani has always been the withdrawn one, the one that doesn't let things get too personal, but really, she's the one that has been the most revealing in their relationship. Charlie picks and pries information out of her that reveals a little bit of her soul in many of their conversations, whereas Charlie will just rattle off some noncoherent babble, or else he'll reveal something but he'll be very cryptic about it, or he'll want to tell her something important but he always ends up holding back, because he just can't bring himself to fully trust anyone yet. But Dani is very straight forward with him. When she chooses to answer him, she'll be completely honest and she doesn't hide from him. So when she completely shuts him out (like in the beginning of this ep after the LT tells her she's too close to Crews), he gets a little disappointed, and it gives him more caution when it comes to trusting to her.
The scene that really intrigued me this time around was the one between Charlie and Jack, most importantly the part where Jack tells Charlie to keep his daughter away from the trouble that he was causing. The look that crosses Charlie's face in that moment is one of surprise, and he kind of grins at the end, like he's thinking, "I never should have doubted her." That was confirmation for him (or as close as he was going to get) that Dani wasn't involved in the conspiracy with her father, and right after this scene, when he joins Dani in the interrogation room, he's very soft towards her, almost apologetic for having not trusted her, and at the same time, he was thankful to have her on his side. It was just a very different kind of interaction for them, very tender, actually. And then of course the scene after that, where my lip biting icon comes from. OMG! I always have to watch that bit over and over and over again, it warms my heart every time. I realize now how important this moment is for Charlie, because this was the first episode where he began to really appreciate Dani, and just when he starts to appreciate her, she is given the chance to choose a new partner (and the LT asks her right in front of him. Jeez, how harsh is that?). But my lovely Reese just looks the LT in the eye and tells her no, and WE GET THE LIP BITE FROM CHARLIE! OMG! He is so jumping for joy on the inside, and he's completely touched at how loyal Dani is to him, and he's probably thinking that he doesn't deserve it, and this is the solidifying moment for their partnership. Dani has verbalized in her own way that Charlie is her partner, and he always will be, and Charlie has come to the realization that he wants her as his partner, that he can actually trust her (to an extent. I think he still has trust issues with everyone in his life). And then the scene on the couch, where she tells Charlie that she doesn't understand him, doesn't even like him, but she knows that he's not one of the bad guys, the look that crosses Charlie's face is so freaking amazing. It's like he's confused on whether she's complimenting him or not, but he knows that it's probably as close to affection from Reese that he'll ever get, so he takes it, and then he's wondering if she's right about the not being a bad guy part, because there's a darkness in him that he's very aware of. Oh, Damian, how I love you for portraying so many emotions at once without even saying a word. *dreamy sigh* And because we all need a Charlie Crews picspam in our lives, click, ogle, swoon:
