Let's Go Mildy Undomesticated!

Well, captain_squid and I just hit the second of the four Wild games we got tickets for this season.

Usually, we drive in and park near this one church a few blocks off from the Energy Center but Squid was telling me that the bus routes have a service where they'll let folks with tickets ride the bus for free two hours prior and after the game.

I thought it was a pretty nifty idea so we decided to try it out. The problem was that we seemed to have missed the one bus by a few minutes. Since the bus stop wasn't more than a couple of blocks from their house, we walked back to wait in warmth.

After a few minutes playing Lego Star Wars on the PS2, we set out to hit the next one... only to watch it pass by while we were still about a block off from the stop. We didn't miss the last one because we were late. We missed both of them because the suckers were running early. Curse you, Metro Transit!

With the next bus not coming until ice time, we resorted to our usual method and drove in.

The Wild had a matchup with the Dallas Stars, a rivalry born from the Wild's inception. This is because the Dallas Stars used to be the Minnesota North Stars... that is, until they decided they wanted a new arena and that they wanted to make us pay for it. We said no and they said they threatened to leave and we said, "well go then." So they did.

Believe me when I tell you that I was shocked to discover when I moved here that the state of a thousand lakes did not have a hockey team. Now that the Wild are here, it is pretty much the airing out of bad blood and that can make for some exciting hockey.

It didn't seem like either team was on their top game. Most of the scoring chances came out of odd bounces of the puck. We scored first from a strange rebound off the goal and then the Stars caught one where Manny should have protected his five hole a little better. The crap goal came from a bizarre bounce off the glass that landed on Manny's back and then slide onto the stick of a Star who then put it in the back of the net.

With the Wild seemingingly unable to generate any sustained offense, we ended up losing 2-1. It was still a fun game, but one of these times, I'm going to take Squid to one where we actually win. Dare to dream, I guess.
