After their meeting in the Nexus, Aqualad had brought Brook to a semi-secluded spot by the waterfront; not at the shipyards, but rather, an observation point where one could get a look at the vastness of the bay without the Titans Tower taking up most of the view ( Read more... )

Brooke looks around the spot by the waterfront. The city itself was familiar to her, at least it reminded her of a few spots back at her own world, but this was a little new to her. And it eased her a bit when she saw that the Titans Tower was nowhere to be seen out in the waters.

She certainly didn't want anything else on her mind, since this was technically a, well. What was this? He did offer her his arm, which she gladly took...

"Yeah, I know what you mean. It looks really nice. I like to sit somewhere quietly by myself after school lets out if I don't have anywhere to go," she said, smiling back. "I can see why you'd like to come here and talk to someone. It's nice."

"Heh, actually..." he says, rubbing the back of his head. "You're the first person I've ever come with here. I always come by myself."

"Really?" she asks, and she laughs a little. "Gotta say, I'm a little flattered that I'm the first one, then, especially since it's a nice place." And especially since this was a nice boy, but she was a little too shy to admit that outloud.

He laughs a little in turn. "Thank you Brooke..." he replied. "So, uhm... well, why don't you tell me about yourself?" He shot her another smile. "We talked a little when you first came to the Nexus, but I'd like to... learn a little more."

"Yeah. New beginnings, as they say," he said. "Really, though, there's a different place I'd like to go back to, that isn't the old tower." And with that, he looks out at the sea wistfully, instinctually taking hold of her hand...

... Which causes him to let go of it suddenly, and look down, laughing nervously. "Heh heh, sorry..."

"Heh, no. It's... er, it's fine. You didn't have to, uh, move away or anything." Whoops. She blushes after saying that. Well, she means it, of course. And curiosity gets the best of her and she forgets that nervous feeling. "So, what kind of different place are you talking about?"

He looks back at the water, rubbing the side of his arm as he blushes as well. "Atlantis," he replied sadly. "I don't know. I've been away a long time, and I can't go back, but... it always seemed more like home than anywhere else."

"Oh...I can kind of understand that." More than he would think, really. "I mean. I know how that must feel. To want to return somewhere but you know you can't go back. It kind of makes you feel a little lonely without even trying to feel that way, huh?"
