I took a little break from my near-constant TD work to draw other things today! Just sketch and do whatever. LOOKS LIKE IT TURNED OUT TO BE 100% GAME COLLAB STUFF OF ET CETERA FOR sfemonster. The jerk.

Aw many any of you guys remember Rastus Rael? He was the demony-critter-guy juggler & acrobat I made way back in the Dark Ages for something else of sfemonster's. I randomly thought of him while working on Et Cetera. Thought he'd make a perfect fit and I was always fond of him, so I overhauled his design and tossed him in! Guys I will not lie, I am pretty darn fond of how this sketch came out. I'm pleased with the redesign, too. He's super tall and gangly and made up pretty much entirely of appendages. Between his lenghty limbs, hand-feet and bigass prehensile tail he's pretty damn agile, graceful, handy and so on. He works at Down Antares Way as one of Ruby Reynard's main assistants and right-hand men. He's mainly in charge of the backstage area, dealing with curtains and props and special effects and stuff, and he sometimes even participates in shows 'cos of his agility (plus he's still a juggler as a hobby). If Ssam can manage to rifle through Rastus' boxes of props and special equipment, he can grab some flares. If you shoot off the flares at the top of The Skyline, you can attract the attention of this next guy!

Because any universe without some variation of Sal Burken in it is a universe that's no fun at all, amirite? Like I could resist this, c'mon. It's also another chance to screw around with the fake arm design. Here it's a slightly-rusty robotic arm where the forearm's a glass tube full of strange energy. This particular version of Sal is known as The Navigator! The Navigator has a boat that he sails top-side of the gray mass filling Et Cetera's skies, skimming along the clouds. It's specially equipped with machinery to be able to fly like that blah blah blah. It also gathers & converts condensation in the clouds into usable water.

He circles all around Et Cetera, and if Ssam uses the aforementioned flares top-side on The Skyline, this'll get The Navigator to come over and greet Ssam, and even give him a lift. The Navigator is savvy, he's belted into a lifeline that'll keep him from falling to his death from the boat, and if the boat itself goes crashing down he can unhook himself and use a parachute. If you ask nicely he'll take you to any part of Et Cetera you want, and lower you down to the ground. Unfortunately that's a bit of a distance, so I hope Ssam doesn't mind heights haha. The Navigator's an odd fellow who just likes to fly around and do whatever, and when he bothers to come down to the ground he prefers to hang out in The Forestline. Mostly with The Buggane who lives in the standalone waterfall! Still finalizing The Buggane's design, not sure which to go with. Currently considering a shy, surprisingly boring fellow who enjoys new company and wears the lensless frames of a pair of glasses somebody threw down into his waterfall because he likes how they look.

Random Extra Fact: I'm not sure if I've ever made this clear about Sal, but he's an Englishman of mostly Scottish ancestry. He's very prideful of this, hence the chained unicorn tattoo he's got in all variations. His voice is a bit deep and coarse and his accent is total English street trash with a hint of Scots brogue.

The maze entrance to Et Cetera! Because the land is comprised of a big urban area and a natural forest, the doorway is a patchwork of old mossy stone and metal contraptions rusted all to hell. The name is over the door and a sort of symbolic design of the moon and machinery. There are two gargoyles on each corner of the top of the entrance, also representing the two aspects of the land. Brooks on the left is a cracked, worn, lichen-covered traditional stone gargoyle who likes to read, and who only talks in proverbs and literary quotes. Friedrich on the right is a 'nouveau' gargoyle made out of a sleek shiny metal. Because of this he can manipulate his shape a bit (LIQUID METAL), so don't piss him off or he'll scratch you to hell. If you go right down the path in the maze, there's a nearby dead end with a statue of a chimera (or a manticore, still deciding) with a lit torch/candle in his mouth. Don't irritate him either, he'll blow fire at you.

A couple of the musicians at Down Antares Way! DAW has two house bands: a mod-style rock trio called The Event Horizon, and a glam rock quartet known as Apus. These are the lead singer and bass guitarist of Apus. Vick Virgo's got a stark black & white theme to his outfits, his hair is even specially bleached/dyed to be b&w and he wears contacts that are such a pale blue they look white. Powders his skin and so on yadda yadda. This is his main outfit, when it's a really special day he's got a version covered in sequins, hah. He's got other outfits too, why not. The bassist is Nel Dorado, who's a Jherk like Jhett. Nel's a girl, but since Jherks are fairly reptilean (they lay eggs, etc.) she ain't got boobs so she doesn't wear a shirt. Not much difference between male & female Jherks, the females are just a little curvier and lack catfish whiskers and the tail tentacles. Her bandmates approve of the androgynousness for the glam theme. She's rockin' a feather boa, makeup, tight white leather pants and random actual feathers. The feathers and birdish bass are because Apus has a running avian theme.

I'm making the various band members BECAUSE I WANT TO, and because there's a part of the DAW quest line that involves talking to all of them to get a description of something that happened and seeing who actually remembered things correctly.

AND FINALLY, a finalized map of my Game Collab land! As compared to this one. I may tweak the left side a bit later pending neighbor decisions and whatnot, but this is pretty much it. Flipped a few things around to better suit the actual location of sfemonster's land, cleaned things up, put in some final details. Really the only things worth noting this time around are the changed locations, where the chimera/manticore statue is, The Navigator tooling around up in the sky, and The Whatsit Cub in the forest. The whatsit cub is a weird little lion-y thing with hooves, a split-tail, aquatic webbing, yadda yadda. A Should Not Be type o' critter. He teases Thor the rabbit and The Buggane and will tell you what's what in The Forestline if you keep at him. Those of you who've been paying attention and have been around for a while may guess who he's based on, hah. YAY FINALIZED MAPS.

That was a goddamn novel, yikes. GOOD TO GET IT OUT OF MY BRAIN, I GUESS. EDIT: Making it public, why not. May keep most of my Game Collab posts public.
