There is something that really bothers me. That is propriety. I hate this set of social rules that people must follow in order to be recognized as "good"people. Or "nice" people. I understand where you are coming from, but consider this:
If not for manners and other self-imposed regulations, what is it that raises humans above any other species (besides of course those intrinsic values such as rational thought and opposable thumbs...) We are constantly looking to achieve a greater gap between ourselves and others--even between other humans and ourselves. Thus we create certain trivial customs to make such distinctions. Ettiquete and manners play an important role in society, however rediculously superficial they may be, they give one a sense of solidarity. If not for such niceties, why not just greet one another with a welcoming grunt of some type...?

I think that these froms of manners the only things subject to society. Such as different customs. Unlike morals, having an absolute truth, manners do not. I believe it is a moral to make one feel loved, but i do not believe there should be a specific formula in doing so. But, who knows. It was just a thought. I not very well thought out one at that. Im sure you can disect my prose into a million pieces and find some fallacies in it. I probably shouldn't have written it. But since it is a journal. I wrote down the thought that was on my mind.
