i, at least, say that everything happens for a reason Not a purpose....

'reason' just means that the event happened in a wider context and occurred due to other connected events, which i believe is how the world works. things can still happen pointlessly and/or by accident. all saying that there was a 'reason' means is that the event is connected causally somehow to other things or other events.

'purpose' implies intention, which would imply that an external agent causes every single action to occur. this implies there are no "accidents". it also implies the existence of god if you think through the logic of every single action having an external agent, ie events that are completely out of human or even physical "control".
this view means that nothing is ever meaningless, but also that everything is planned and therefore that spontaneity does not exist.
any physicist can tell you that this isnt true.
