when zara told me that steve burns had killed himself i wasnt really sure if it was true or not so i did a little research...

05/04/02 - A reader writes: "I am hearing that Steve, the host of 'Blue's Clues,' has committed suicide. Is this a rumor, or is it true?" Answer: It's a rumor (an old one), and it's false. Earlier versions alleged he died of a drug overdose, a claim Burns has had to deny countless times. The rumor was revitalized by Burns' permanent departure from the show last month after a highly successful five-year run. He may be Clue-less now, but he's very much alive.
Apparently, panicked parents were calling and emailing the producers by the hundreds. The morning TV show had both the producer of Blue's Clues and Steve himself as guests to debunk the rumor.

According to the producers of Blue's Clues, the story first began popping up on the Internet around Thanksgiving in 1998. No one knows why. At one point it was spreading so fast that Burns' own mother heard it and phoned him to make sure he was still alive (more from E! Online).
