Ceci n'est pas un journal

I don't keep a diary. I've tried a couple of times, to see whether there seemed any more point to it than I'd assumed, and it didn't work for me. And when I'm in the mood to write polemic or something that reads like an article, I already have an outlet for that kind of thing: a fanzine. On paper. The old-fashioned sort. So you might be wondering ( Read more... )

(The last time I was flattered enough by being asked to join someone's gang that I agreed to do something I don't have time for, I ended up running a Worldcon. Think on that.)

Shudder...

Never, never agree to have a WorldCon organisation meeting at your house because "it's central and you have a reasonable size lounge room".

Especially when you know there are two factions attending and at least one person who should probably be on antipsychosis medication.

And even more especially when you're not actually involved in any of the organisation, you just know people who are...

(I left after the 3rd hour and 2nd major temper tantrum. Dean stayed.)

Shudder I know whereof you speak. I was involved in an organization that was bidding for a Worldcon, as a member of the board, and active member of the bidcom. After the vote, and after the directors were all re-elected, I decided that I didn't actually have to stay on the board to do what I wanted to do.

So I resigned. I'm only on one board now, and I don't have to feel like I'm the only adult in the room (or that we adults are in the minority, anyway).

(Deducing the organization and the bid in question is left as an exercise for the reader.

Umm, yes, this is indeed Claire and Mark -- who don't look at their LJ comments too often. But we've now added you to our friends lists which will expose you to the wealth of things that we don't post.
