Resto Shaman Gear List

Jun 07, 2010 18:39

A friend was picking my brains about resto shaman (a WoW thing) healing, including gear, and since I was tired and not particularly wanting to move from my comfortable chair ANYWAY, I put together a list of gear from heroics, quests and craftables that are within reach of a new 80.

This is a list of suggested target gear for a newly-made 80 resto shaman as of 3.3. This list does not include any of the Exalted reputation items due to badge alternatives being available before hitting Exalted with any particular faction. It does not include badge items; everything on this list is either craftable or a drop.

Helms:

Blue:
1.) Brood Plague Helmet (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37592) - Elder Nadox, H. Old Kingdom - The meta socket makes this the best choice out of the available blue helms.
2.) Helm of the Lightning Halls (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37857) - Trash BoE, H. Halls of Lightning - Solid MP5 and SP make this a good choice, and since it's BoE, you can find it on the AH
3.) Battle Mender's Helm (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44248) - Rep Item, Revered Argent Crusade - This is good if you want to bother grinding reps these days.
4.) Sharkjawk Cap (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44110) - Rep Item, Revered w/Oracles - Dependent on wanting to do the Sholazar quests and getting your rep up with the Oracles. Decent choice, though, and a lower required level.
5.) Stormhide Crown (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37857) - LW craftable BoE - Easy to craft, but item points are wasted on resilience.

Purple:
1.) Helm of the Spirit Shock (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50214) - Devourer of Souls, H. Forge of Souls - Ideally itemized for typical shaman healing.
2.) Polished Mirror Helm (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49804) - Forgemaster Garfrost, Reg. Pit of Saron - Very well-itemized.
3.) Fallen Sentry's Hood (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49830) - Falric, Reg. Halls of Reflection ** Leather - If you can get your group to give you the helm (you won't be able to roll need), this is better than the #2 choice.

Necklaces:

Blue:
1.) Amulet of the Spell Flinger (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43285) - Amanitar, H. Old Kingdom - Crit and SP, but most people skip this boss.
2.) Amulet of Dazzling Light (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37141) - Anomalus, H. Nexus - MP5 and SP, and a non-skippable boss equal a good upgrade for a new 80.
3.) Sky Sapphire Amulet (http://www.wowhead.com/item=45813) - JC craftable BoE - A good choice, but wasted item points on Resil.

Purple:
1.) Arcane Loops of Anger (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50211) - Devourer of Souls, H. Forge of Souls - Tasty, tasty trio of awesome resto shaman stats.
2.) Love's Prisoner (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50196) - Bronjahm, H. Forge of Souls - Haste, SP and MP5, while not quite as awesome as the haste/sp/crit combo. Less competition from DPS casters, though.
3.) Symbol of Redemption (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47562) - The Black Knight, H. Trial of the Champion - The fact that this has a socket makes it a very solid neck.
4.) Titanium Spellshock Necklace (http://www.wowhead.com/item=42647) - JC craftable BoE - If you have the titanium around, this is a good necklace to start with.

Shoulders:

Blue:
1.) Spaulders of the Violet Hold (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37875) - Cyanigosa, H. Violet Hold - Solid shoulders, with Haste, SP and a socket.
2.) Mantle of Discarded Ways (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37398) - King Ymiron, H. Utgarde Pinnacle - No socket, but crit and SP and a decent chunk of INT make these a good second to the Violet Hold shoulders.
3.) Epaulets of Market Row (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37116) - Trash BoE, H. Culling of Stratholme - Solid MP5 and SP make these a decent choice.

Purple:
** There are very few non-raid or badge choices for purple shoulders, so this list uses a number of cloth and leather items as substitutes **
1.) Very Fashionable Shoulders (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50193) - Bronjahm, H. Forge of Souls - Despite these having +hit and being cloth, the fact that they have a good combination of Haste, Int and SP makes them decent if you don't mind wearing cloth.
2.) Frayed Abomination Stitching Shoulders (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49834) - Marwyn, Reg. Hall of Reflection - The magical trio of haste, spellpower and crit. Just... on cloth. Deal with it, these are good shoulders. Possibly tied with #1; #1 has more SP and haste, but wastes IP on +hit.
3.) Mantle of the Eternal Sentinel (http://www.wowhead.com/item=40439) - BoE, Obsidian Sanctum 25-man - These are great shoulders but may be difficult to get ahold of on the AH. Leather is still better than cloth.
4.) Mantle of Inconsolable Fear (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47226) - The Black Knight, Reg. Trial of the Champion - Cloth, but the magical trio of stats.

Cloaks:

Blue:
1.) Ancient Dragon Spirit Cape (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37291) - Ley-Guardian Eregos, H. Oculus - Probably your best bet for a blue cape. Besides, Oculus on random is a ridiculous number of badges.
2.) Shroud of Dedicated Research (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44167) - Rep item, Honored w/Kirin Tor - It's not hard to get Honored with the Kirin Tor, and this is a good cloak.
3.) Cloak of the Moon (http://www.wowhead.com/item=41607) / Cloak of Frozen Spirits (http://www.wowhead.com/item=41608) - Tailoring craftable BoE - Either of these cloaks are good choices.

Purple:
1.) Cloak of the Fallen Cardinal (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49823) - Scourgelord Tyrannus, Reg. Pit of Saron - By dint of being the highest itemlevel cloak available in heroics, and having a decent -- if not perfect -- set of stats, this tops the list.
2.) Kurisu's Indecision (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47501) - Eadric, H. Trial of the Champion - Wasted itemization on +hit, but still a decent cloak.
3.) Wispcloak (http://www.wowhead.com/item=41609) / Deathchill Cloak (http://www.wowhead.com/item=41610) - Tailoring craftable BoEs - Either of these cloaks are good choices, depending on your healing style. I personally dislike the lack of stats on the Deathchill.

Chest:

Blue:
Stay with your heirloom. If you absolutely do not want to stay with the heirloom...
1.) Moragg's Chestguard (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43410) - Moragg, H. Violet Hold - Haste, SP and two sockets make this the best choice out of the available blues.
2.) Dalronn's Jerkin (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37184) - Skarvald/Dalronn, H. Utgarde Keep - SP and MP5 and a socket. Not ideal, but decent.
3.) Scaled Armor of Drakos (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37256) - Drakos the Interrogator - Crit and SP. No sockets, so not ideal.

Purple:
1.) Shroud of Rime (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49826) - Scourgelord Tyrannus, Reg. Pit of Saron - This is a very, very good base chest, with haste, SP and MP5.
2.) Carapace of Grim Visions (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47178) - Paletress, Reg. Trial of the Champion - Another fairly solid starter chest; the fact that it has a socket makes up for it being crit/MP5 rather than haste/MP5 or haste/crit.
3.) Revenant's Breastplate (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43461) / Mystical Vest of Elements (http://www.wowhead.com/item=48683) - These two are fairly tied for use. The heirloom is fairly decent for heading into heroics, and the Revenant's is somewhat annoying to craft.

Bracers:

Blue:
1.) Bands of the Sky Ring (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37365) - Trash BoE, H. Oculus - Crit and SP make these a slightly better choice than the others, and their being BoE makes it easier to get ahold of them.
2.) Bands of Channelled Energy (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37138) - Grand Magus Telestra, H. Nexus - SP and MP5. Not great, but not bad.
3.) Stormhide Wristguards (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43452) - Leatherworking craftable BoE - Like all the Stormhide gear, this has MP5, SP and Resilience. That said, these things aren't bad. The entire set's pretty solid, just has wasted itemization for PvE players.

Purple:
1.) Limb Regeneration Bracers (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37788) - Prophet Tharon'ja, H. Drak'theron Keep - Solid starter bracers.
1.) Seven Stormy Mornings (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49787) - Bronjahm, Reg. Forge of Souls - Tied with the above due to wasted itemization on +hit and being crit instead of haste.

Gloves:

Blue:
1.) Gloves of Radiant Light (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37261) - Varos Cloudstrider, H. Oculus - These are leather, but combine Haste and SP without wasting itemization on Spirit.
2.) Cracked Epoch Grasps (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37686) - Chrono-Lord Epoch, H. Culling of Stratholme - Crit and SP and a socket!
3.) Lightning Charged Gloves (http://www.wowhead.com/item=38615) - Maiden of Grief, H. Halls of Stone - Spellpower and MP5 gloves. If you have mana trouble, you can use these.
4.) Gauntlets of Dark Conversion (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37110) - End chest, Reg. Culling of Stratholme - A non-heroic version of the above gloves.

Purple:
1.) Gloves of Dismal Fortune (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47498) - Eadric, Paletress, H. Trial of the Champion - While these are leather, they are ideally itemized.
2.) Mitts of Burning Hail (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49837) - Marwyn, Reg. Halls of Reflection - While there are some points wasted on +hit here, these are fairly good gloves.
3.) Fiery Obelisk Handguards (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37623) - Herald Volazj, H. Old Kingdom - Crit over Haste results in these being second choice.

Waist:

Blue:
1.) Girdle of the Ethereal (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37868) - Xevozz, H. Violet Hold - Haste, SP and a socket! Yay!
2.) Slad'ran's Coiled Cord (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37628) - Slad'ran, H. Gundrak - SP and MP5. Still, a decent enough belt.
3.) Nightshock Girdle (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43133) - Leatherworking craftable BoE - Level 78, craftable and easy to get, with no points wasted on resilience. No innate sockets, though, and crit instead of haste.

Purple:
1.) Strip of Remorse (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50314) - Lich King, H. Halls of Reflection - It is cloth, but perfectly itemized. If your group is willing to give it to you and you are willing to wear cloth, take it.
2.) Blue Belt of Chaos (http://www.wowhead.com/item=45554) - Leatherworking craftable BoE - While it is crit and SP and MP5 rather than the magical trio, the fact that it has a potential three sockets makes up for it. It may be expensive(ish) to craft, though runed orbs have dropped in price.
3.) Girdle of the Dauntless Conquerer (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47563) - Black Knight, H. Trial of the Crusader - Crit, SP and MP5, and a single socket. This is probably your easiest-to-get belt when you're just starting out.

Legs:

Blue:
1.) Frozen Forest Kilt (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37155) - Omorok the Tree-Shaper, H. Nexus - The fact that there are two sockets makes up for this being a purely SP and MP5 item. The fact that it's the tier 6 pants looks-wise makes up for the rest.
2.) Patroller's War-Kilt (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37818) - Bjarngrim, H. Halls of Lightning - Fairly tied with the above pants, these are bumped down simply due to the single socket making them less customizable.
3.) Scavenged Feathery Leggings (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44122) - Rep item, Frenzyheart Revered - See warnings on other rep items. That said, these are well-itemized.

Purple:
1.) Blackened Ghoul Skin Leggings (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50265) - Krick & Ick, H. Pit of Saron - These are very nicely itemized for a newish shaman.
2.) Leggings of the Snowy Bramble (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47249) - Argent Champions, H. Trial of the Crusader - Leather, but well-itemized. Take 'em if you can.
3.) Black Dragonskin Breeches (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49811) - Very similar to the above pants, save crit instead of haste, and a lower itemlevel. Still, very good pants.
4.) Legguards of the Dauntless Conquerer (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49847) - Lich King, Reg. Halls of Reflection - Wasted itemization on hit, but good legs aside from that.
5.) Legguards of Nature's Power (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37695) - End Chest, H. Culling of Stratholme - Crit and SP and mail, but low itemlevel and thus lower SP than you may want.

Boots:

Blue:
1.) Sabatons of the Ages (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37654) - Council event, H. Halls of Stone - Haste and SP; like most blues, this only has two bonus stats on it, but they're well-chosen.
2.) Stormhide Stompers (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37105) - LW Craftable BoE - Easy to make and decently itemized, these are a fairly solid choice at level 78, too.
3.) Treads of Altered History (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37105) - Chrono-Lord Epoch, Reg. Culling of Stratholme - Another good choice at level 78 that can carry you through to heroics.

Purple:
1.) Mudslide Boots (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50283) - Scourgelord Tyrannus, H. Pit of Saron - Ideally itemized boots for the resto shaman.
2.) Lightning Grounded Boots (http://www.wowhead.com/item=45563) - Leatherworking craftable BoE - See notes on the Blue Belt of Chaos.
2.) Soul Screaming Boots (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49798) - Devourer of Souls, Reg. Pit of Saron - Tied with the above for utility, largely dependent on your healing style.
4.) Revenant's Treads (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43469) - Leatherworking craftable BoE - Many leatherworkers make these to level up on, so ask around to see if someone has some stashed, or check the AH.

Rings:

Blue:
1.) Solitaire of Reflecting Beams (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43408) - Moragg, H. Violet Hold - Haste and SP, good choices.
1.) Ring of the Frenzied Wolvar (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37371) - Gortok Palehoof, H. Utgarde Pinnacle - See above.
3.) Band of Enchanted Growth (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37195) - Mage-Lord Urom, H. Oculus - A good ring to pair with a pure Haste/SP ring to make up for a lack of MP5.
4.) Ring of the Traitor King (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37232) - Anub'arak, H. Azjol-Nerub - Crit and SP, decent but not ideal choices.
5.) Globule Signet (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37869) - Ichoron, H. Violet Hold - See above.

Purple:
1.) Oath of Empress Zoe (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50313) - Lich King, H. Halls of Reflection - While it has no haste, it has the highest available (in this gear bracket) SP and a decent chunk of crit and MP5.
2.) Spiteful Signet (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49800) - Devourer of Souls, Reg. Forge of Souls - See above comments.
4.) Annhylde's Ring (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37192) - Ingvar the Plunderer, H. Utgarde Keep - Haste and SP. Good, but being a base-level ring, it lacks any additional stats (particularly regen).
4.) Band of Guile (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37694) - End Chest, H. Culling of Stratholme - See above.

Trinkets:

Blue:
1.) Spark of Life (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37657) - Sjonnir the Ironshaper, H. Halls of Stone - This is possibly one of the best trinkets out there, and can be used beyond heroic-level gear.
2.) Forge Ember (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37660) - Sjonnir the Ironshaper, H. Halls of Stone - Another very good trinket. This gives you a good chunk of throughput via crit, and regen via Improved Water Shield, and a nice proc.
3.) Tome of Arcane Phenomena (http://www.wowhead.com/item=36972) - Eregos, Reg. Oculus - This trinket is fairly solid, though you may want to keep your heirlooms over it if you have them.
4.) Winged Talisman (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37844) - Ionar, H. Halls of Lightning - A pure mana-regen trinket with a useful on-use. Not much else to say about it.

Note: Some people will ask why I did not put the Soul Preserver from regular Culling of Stratholme on this. The answer is simple: it's a rare, unpredictable proc that may or may not be used well.

Purple:
1.) Ephemeral Snowflake (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50260) - Marwyn, H. Halls of Reflection - This is a good trinket if you're having mana issues. The on-use is also geared towards those oh-shit moments.
2.) Tears of the Vanquished (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47215) - The Black Knight, Reg. Trial of the Champion - Another good mana-regen trinket. It has a 45-second internal cooldown on the proc, and the int will give you SP, a minimal amount of crit, and mana via replenishment.
3.) Nevermelting Ice Crystal (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50259) - Scourgelord Tyrannus, H. Pit of Saron - This trinket is good for SP, and the on-use is fairly solid, but it is geared more towards DPSers. That said, take it rather than let it be DE'd.
4.) Je'tze's Bell (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37835) - World Drop BoE - This trinket is an upgraded version of a BC-era trinket, and it remains a solid balance of SP and mana regen. If you can find one on the AH for relatively cheap, take it.
5.) Darkmoon Card: Greatness (INT version) - Darkmoon deck BoE - This can be a useful trinket, but there are far, far better options out there.

Offhand/Shields:

Blue:
1.) Temple Crystal Fragment (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37718) - Novos the Summoner, H. Drak'theron Keep - This isn't a shield, so if you don't feel comfortable using an offhand over a shield, disregard this.
2.) Facade Shield of Glyphs (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37216) - Krik'thir the Gatewatcher, H. Azjol-Nerub - A good shield in terms of SP and MP5, but nothing amazing.
3.) Bulwark of Redemption (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44032) - Quest Reward, Banshee's Revenge (Start: http://www.wowhead.com/quest=13043) - SP and Haste. Good, but, again, nothing amazing.
4.) Saronite Protector (http://www.wowhead.com/item=41117) - Blacksmithing craftable BoE - Easily gotten, decent stats, though low. There are a number of similar shields.

Purple:
1.) Shriveled Heart (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50309) - Lich King, H. Halls of Reflection - This is not a shield, but has the ideal combo of stats. If you don't feel comfortable not using a shield, don't take this.
2.) Protector of Frigid Souls (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49821) - Scourgelord Tyrannus, Reg. Pit of Saron - A shield with crit, MP5 and SP. Enjoy. Not ideal, but pretty damn good.
3.) Zom's Crackling Bulwark (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44313) - World Drop BoE - SP and MP5, base-level shield, decent but nothing special. It does have a fairly cool graphic, though.
4.) Iron Bound Tome (http://www.wowhead.com/item=38322) - Inscription craftable BoE - Fairly cheap to make, and while it's not a shield, it also has a lower level requirement. However, it has no INT.

Weapons:

One-Handers
Blue:
1.) Gavel of the Brewing Storm (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44199) - Rep Item, Wyrmrest Accord Revered - The 'magic three' stats make this mace solid. Just annoying to grind rep at this point in the game.
2.) Gavel of the Fleshcrafter (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37681) - Salramm the Fleshcrafter, H. Culling of Stratholme - SP and MP5 make this an 'eh' mace at best, but still a decent choice.
3.) Totemic Purification Rod (http://www.wowhead.com/item=44052) - Rep Item, Kal'uak Revered - A good mace for starting out.

Purple:
1.) Spectral Kris (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47569) - The Black Knight, H. Trial of the Champion - The 'magic three' stats, and a socket to boot makes this dagger the top choice.
2.) Bone Golem Scapula (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49845) - Lich King, Reg. Halls of Reflection - This mace has a nice balance of desirable stats without wasting any itemization.
3.) Surgeon's Needle (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50227) - Forgemaster Garfrost, H. Pit of Saron - The crit is less ideal than the mace's haste, but this is a solid dagger.
4.) Mariel's Sorrow (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47509) - Eadric, H. Trial of the Champion - See above, save lower ilevel.
5.) Chilled Heart of the Glacier (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49846) - Lich King, Reg. Halls of Reflection - While this dagger wastes itemization on +hit, it can still be a solid healing weapon. Just don't take it over a caster DPS. They get cranky.
6.) War Mace of Unrequited Love (http://www.wowhead.com/item=37169) - Keristrasza, H. Nexus - SP and MP5 are okay, but nothing amazing.

Staves
There's only one really worth mentioning:
1.) Unspeakable Secret (http://www.wowhead.com/item=49801) - Forgemaster Garfrost, Reg. Pit of Saron - This staff has our desired three stats, and while the enchant makes up for a great deal -- higher SP available -- it doesn't usually match a MH+OH combination, particularly since shields can be enchanted with 25 INT. That said, if this drops and you're using a blue, then snag it.

Totems:
... these vary wildly by your healing style and what situation you're in, so I'll just touch upon a few.

1.) Totem of Calming Tides (Badge: http://www.wowhead.com/item=47665) - This is your primary totem even in ICC, as it is dependably up and doesn't require monitoring riptides.
2.) Totem of the Surging Sea (Badge: http://www.wowhead.com/item=50464) - On fights where you are maintaining Riptides across much of the party/raid, this totem is good. It requires more monitoring rather than a passive buff, though.
3.) Totem of the Bay (http://www.wowhead.com/item=38368) - Venture Bay coins - This is a good, solid totem that is easily purchased for 30 coins, which can be acquired in fifteen minutes of work.
4.) Totem of Forest Growth (Badge: http://www.wowhead.com/item=40709) - A good totem for early shaman due to the mana reduction on our primary healing spell, but most healing in heroics is done with Lesser Healing Wave and Riptides over Chain Heal. Go figure.
5.) Furious Gladiator's Totem of the Third Wind (Honor: http://www.wowhead.com/item=42598) - A good totem for those who solely do 5-mans, due to the healing style differences there vs. raid healing.
