I have an office hour again today... my penultimate for the semester. No more recitations! In a way I think I will miss doing recitations; teaching is pretty fun. You know a good way to pass time during those office hours
in the yahell chat is to try to prove visual basic or cobol are
the greatest languages in the world. Then you would have conversations
forever.

I had a really great conversation the other day. Someone came in and said his cousin had winamp "built in to his desktop." This guy asked what he meant by that, and he said, "built in, what more is there to say?" Finally he said that it meant you couldn't close or minimize the program, and he was just dying to get his winamp like that. So I said, why don't you call your cousin and ask what he did. "Because I just left there and I don't want to call him right away." So why don't you wait until tomorrow. "Because I want it now!" I called him Veruca Salt, but I don't think he got the reference. Anyway, that other guy and I are trying to figure out why he wants it done and why he is in the programming room to figure it out. Someone else mentioned a compiler, and the winamp freak says, "What's a compiler?" So I said, "you're in a programming room and you don't know what a compiler is, what's wrong with this picture?"
