Yes, definitely no socks sort of shoes. Though i suppose if you got them a bit big you could wear toe socks.

They are not that dissimilar from those mesh water shoes that were big several years ago, except definitely better contact with the ground and well, toes. So kind of plastic-y, but not too bad. i have nto worn them in actual water yet, btu i imagine they will be much better on river bottoms than regular shoes.

Oh, and i have to keep my toenails trimmed otherwise they press in and cut circulation in my toes.

Uhm... walking barefoot does not work for me. I hate it, but I must wear shoes, even in the house, because I have flat feet. I went to the podiatrist last week because the pain had gotten to the point of needing to divide my days into "sitting tasks" and "standing tasks" so that I could mix them up and not have to limp around the house / coming home from work. With shoes, I would be limping by the end of the work day. Without shoes, I would be crawling around after half an hour, tops.

So, now I have new inserts to hopefully correct my arches so that they don't hurt so badly. It seems to help some, but I'm still getting used to them.

I really miss being able to go barefoot, though. I used to all the time when I was a kid.
