Can I just say that I do Not get all the reboot!Kirk/Bones stuff? I saw the new movie three times, yes, three times and I Never got Kirk/Bones vibes. Maybe it's just the TOS fan in me - I got into fanfiction and slash mostly because of Kirk/Spock. Also, TOS Spock/McCoy? Whaaaaa-? The concept of that is just too damn weird. Though there is a really

ie: Toph/Zuko! I lurve them to bits, but that's mostly because when you namesmoosh them, it's ToKo which sounds exactly like taco and I like tacos :D ALSO! AMERICA/STEPHEN COLBERT (Hahaha watch me cross RPF with Hetalia). Or the fandom I never got into: Syler/everyone.
Haha, I think I have this stance because most pairings I enjoy a lot are the ones that seem to not exist in fandom... mostly because people are like, "are you kidding? have those two ever even met each other?" "uhm... no, probably not. But if they did, it would be epic!"

Pairings that don't make sense sometimes make awesome fic - see "Little Green Leaf" - but only if they get over the whole, "this has no canon basis whatsoever" thing.

The sparkly Kirk/Spock interaction made the ST movie for me. "A friendship that will define you both"? SLASH FODDER. Easy enough to spin Kirk as an omnisexual and Spock as his (reluctant) soul-mate, esp. when the older version of the latter is playing matchmaker. I don't see Bones as anything other than completely hetero, though.
People pair up Sulu and Chekov because John Cho & Anton Yelchin are adorable.

I also see Bones is really hetero... which is probably why I enjoyed "Too Straight" so much. Even if I can't quite wrap my head around Spock/McCoy, McCoy loving Spock as a friend and feeling so angsty about not being able to return his feelings was really good reading.
Haha, I forgot about the influence of the actors on fanfiction.
