[Obligatory Naked Post]

[Being a man of luxury, it was no surprise that a certain Hell Master had taken liberty in implementing certain elements into MSF to suit his needs. Ever so slowly, he found himself becoming more and more integrated into the surroundings and finding a creative light at the end of the tunnel as he adapts the base to his liking ( Read more... )

[Public saunas weren't really his thing (even if he's never been to one), but it was empty when he went in so...why not?]

So it's like a video game. You even get extra lives so you never die.

[Honestly, he's just winding the rookie up right now.]

[And it's working like a charm.]

No, you don't just sit around with a controller, you have to actually preform the actions--shoot, duck behind corners, whatever. It's just that none of it's really there.

You've never had first-hand experience on the battlefield?

Let me tell you, kid; it's nothing like that virtual reality crap. I've been through both regimes and the virtual realm doesn't have the spontaneity or sustenance of a real-life simulation.

No, not yet...

[Not any that he remembers, anyway.]

Yeah, but that was in, what, the '90s? They've improved it by now, I'm sure. It's just as good as first-hand experience.

[Solid Snake didn't approve of his training...

Jack was both compelled to vigilantly defend himself and make the soldier believe him, and to go back home and ditch his VR Training for something more like Snake was suggesting.]

[Snake raises his hand to his hot face and starts wiping the sweat from his brow.]

Nno. 2000s. I trained before my mission at Shadow Moses. VR Training was all the rage, but it pales in comparison to real life experience and dealing with potential threats.

[Long fingers curl up into the fabric of the towel situated around his midsection.] Every day is a battle. You should always be prepared for it. You never know when you might need to resort to your training.

... [He was running out of comebacks. Jack pushed his damp out of his eyes and behind his ears.]

Well, they insist I use VR, so it must be good enough. At least to get me ready for my first mission...

To be honest, nothing interesting ever happens in Manhattan to be prepared for. [Sigh.] Except maybe getting mugged.

Hnh... You shouldn't always listen to your superiors. They don't always know what's best for you.

[The soldier relaxes his stance as he addresses Jack directly.] -Maybe I could show you through first-hand experience what it's really like. A simulation doesn't accurately portray what it's like to feel the sensation of another warm body against your own. Your heart pounds so loudly that you can hear it in your head. Your blood flows through your veins in a way no other than your sparring partner can match.

False realities can't match that inner gut feeling, or the exhilaration you get when rounding off against an enemy or rival.

[Jack blinks, quietly holding in his enthusiasm at being offered some first-hand tips by Solid Snake. However, it's still fairly evident by the tone of his voice.]

Really, you'd do that? Haha, well if you're so avid on proving how inferior VR Training is. [Actually, there was no point in playing it off like it was nothing, was there? Jack nods his head slightly, a bit more modest.] It'd be an honor. I've never actually practiced with another soldier before, nevermind one with such a reputation...

You look like you could use some work, but you've got potential. It'll be a good challenge for us both.

[The compliment only provokes Snake into shaking his head solemnly.] You shouldn't believe everything you hear, kid. I'm nothing special.

Ah... [He frowns a bit. Jack personally thought he was pretty competent, but Snake seemed to think otherwise. It didn't matter though, he could prove himself in training.]

I can't wait. When should I be ready?

[Jack, even after meeting another Snake, is still surprised by the response.] And what you did at Shadow Moses was nothing short of heroic, you stopped a nuclear crisis!
