[There is only so long Torin can keep wearing the outfit she came on board with combined with the clothing she'd scavenged here and there, and only so long she can occupy herself with exploring and the things in her room.

Therefore, she is now dividing her time between going through luggage on Deck 12, and exploring the bazaar on Deck 08, and going ( Read more... )

Ah, well, there was no magic in my world.

Was there an equivalent of sorts? [It still boggles her mind.]

Nein, I am afraid not.

[Unless you count science, but Mimmi doesn't really consider science "magic"]

[Science and magic are, surprisingly, not the same on Torin's world!]

Do you have electricity, then?

Don't think there's any magic, just alchemy.

We have alchemy on my world, though I don't know exactly what it entails. What is it like on yours?

[Her world probably actually continues to pursue the middle-ages version of it.]

[It's shiny.] It's the process of altering matter; changing it into something else. You have to know a lot of science stuff to do it and it usually involves a transmutation circle of sorts.

[Ooh shiny?]

That is... interesting. I don't know of many people who can do that where I come from. [Deities, sure, but that's another story entirely.] Is it a fairly common ability?

Anything in specific you're interested in?

[This whole openly talking about his world thing was still fairly new to him]

Everything? [A dry chuckle after a moment.] I suppose technology, and magic... if it's the same as I know it or not. [Asking about Deities and the like she'll save for later.]

When I first arrived on board, I assumed 'electricity' was a fancy word for magic. I feel that says something for the technology in my world.

[He laughs a bit]

[She laughs when he does as well.] But you have magic on your world as well then. What is it like?

I don't know much about technology levels, but this place is... different from what we had back home. More advanced, I think. I still want to open up one of those glass fire-bulbs to see what makes them work.

As for magic, though, yeah. Plenty of magic. I could go into details but it gets extensive.

Glass fire-bulbs. [It's repeated with a sense of amusement.] It's about level with my world, but it's more advanced in some ways, I admit.

And I've nothing but time, if you want to explain the details. I'd prefer it, really.

[Prepare for the tealest of deers, Torin!]

Alright, well. You're born with it, or you aren't. If you're a Natural, you'll be able to start using it at a pretty young age, but otherwise you'll have to be taught. There are two branches and six types - four in the elemental branch, two in the biological branch. It's rarer to be a Natural in the biological branch, but it's possible.

[She lived with priests. She's used to teal deers.]

And one who's taught might not advance as fast as a Natural, correct?

[Prompting you to go on.]

That's... a lot of ground to cover.

We're--we were--mapping the genome of gods. Does that count?

Mapping the what of the gods? And - you have gods as well?

Yes, we have many.

The genome. Their genetic sequence...

Well, for the few material samples of those that are or were corporeal in nature.

We have many as well, but I assume yours are not the same as mine.

I... don't know what that is. Is it a code?
