You get the occasional saucy postcard about what Scotsmen have up their kilts here, but mostly I think you're right, that type of card has always been more of an English thing. And the whole saucy seaside thing is quite English I think. Beach resorts in general are more English, although we do have them - but I guess the Scottish weather means they've never been as big as in England!

I thought so re Scotland

One of the really sad things about vintage postcards ie pre 1930 is just how racist they are. The even more sad thing is the enthusiasm with which they are snapped up at Fairs.
Sometimes collectables can be like a comfort blanket for racists, sexists, homophobes and the rest.
They are attaching themselves to WW2 stuff, Confederate stuff. Being antique is not making it all acceptable.
I suppose thats how I feel about my big book of saucy postcards...having it as a reference point and testing a journal entry here on Live Journal before posting it (with modification maybe) on my collecting blog on Word Press.
Yes, I am no saint and I might find honeymoon cartoons/jokes amusing ...but all that "Carry On" culture is not a culture that I want to be admiring or thought of as admiring.
