And we've gotten just about 2 feet of rain here. We'll be getting more tonight, and all this rain has given me lots of time to read stuff, so I'm wondering if people can recommended me some good (preferably long) science fiction/fantasy books to read ( Read more... )

Off the top of my head I can think of a couple of ya books.... 'Origins' by Jessica khoury is newish (2012) she actually graduated from same college I did tho many many years later.(I don't know her). Also hugely popular right now is the 'Mortal instruments' series. There's a movie coming out soon based on first book 'city of bones'

Origins I don't know, and will look for it at my library. Mortal Instruments, however, I know very well, and I am eagerly excited about the upcoming movie. Thank you for the recommendations. :)

I can second the recommendation for The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare.

The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. Urban Fantasy. Love the doggie.

How do you feel about werewolves? Patricia Briggs has two series, the Mercy Thompson series and the Alpha and Omega series. The two series are intertwined, and Ms. Briggs has really put some thought into her world building.

Mercedes Lackey. All of her stuff is good, but I really like her urban fantasy stories the most. Check out her website, especially the "Elves on the Road" section.

The War for the Oaks by Emma Bull is my favorite urban fantasy (I wore out 3 editions before getting a copy for my Nook). Her other books are also excellent, but the Oaks is the best.
