I think you're overstressing about the cover letter issue. Just get something down on paper and you'll have more to work with. Did you look at samples? I know getting you to write is like pulling teeth, but it will be okay.

I don't see how I can get through writing with less agony than you, and I'm a math major. You're an arts/humanities person, this is what you do!!

Finally thought I had something for one opening, but then it wasn't there anymore. Oh well. Would've been interesting.
