It's that time of the year again! Time for me to figure out which new shows, if any, are good enough to add to my must-watch roster. Here are the best and worst of the freshman candidates, along with the returning champs...

I haven't watched any of the pilots that I TIVOed, but they all got above a "C" from you. Nice.

After reading EW's review of "Bionic Woman," I was surprised by your opening line until you revealed that you weren't talking about the main character.

Holy God! That "Moonlighting" stuff sounds horrible!

There are Chucks everywhere. "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry." "Good Luck Chuck." The invasion has begun.

I noticed that in the movies too. Totally creepy.

You missed Big Shots. I'm unsure if I like it or not. It's a very guys guy kind of show. I love whose on the show but I don't know how much I can handle of this type of show. It sounds like the dirty, sexy, money part that is missing from Dirty, Sexy, Money is on this show instead ( ... )

I have Big Shots saved, but it got trashed, so I don't know if I'll bother.

Most tend to disagree with me about Pushing Daisies. It has a tone that just really annoys me, which is why I don't enjoy most Wes Anderson movies. I feel like it's shouting, "I'm both whimsical and melancholy!" in my ear. They're just so not grounded in reality. But if that's your bag... It's executed pretty well, I will say.

That's Kirsten Bell narrating Gossip Girl? Haha. I didn't know. I must say I hate the way they use that narration. She sort of growls her lines. But the real problem is just how awkward it seems. I'm just like, "Who's talking? Where is she? HOW DOES SHE KNOW??"

Except Buffy actually really was grounded in reality. It told really interesting dramatic stories that just happened to include an apocalypse. But the human drama was always just as riveting as everything else. That's the problem with Heroes right now - none of the characters are really experiencing anything emotionally, it's all just plot.

Last night's "Heroes" fucking blew. Worst writing since the first half of last season. And what the fuck was with those scene tags? Since when do the last lines at the ends of scenes get their own shitty reaction shot AND awful line reading? Step up, people.

My votes for best shows still churning out episodes are Heroes, Curb!, Weeds, Californication (worth Tivoing I think), and Battlestar. I do have to see How I Met Your Mother... I do love me some NPH.

I wrote my Heroes review mostly before I watched last night's episode. It felt sort of like a time filler, like they don't have enough story to really accomplish anything and are just biding their time until sweeps. I'm pretty worried about that show, honestly, because it's so on autopilot with its characters. They've become "types" and that never fails to ruin a show.

I don't have HBO or Showtime but I do enjoy Curb, Weeds and Californiacation. I have no excuse for not watching Battlestar Galactica except that I only recently decided to stop being lazy and align my Tivo with the proper cable channels. I think I'd rather go back to the beginning, though.

Do. Start with the first season box set (which includes the mini-series). It truly is a work of modern art, and I don't just say that because I'm a gigantic lonely nerd.

I can't believe it. I think for once you have actually watched more tv than I have. :)

I'm also somewhat amazed by the overall generosity of your grades. However, one of the shows I did see was Moonlight, and I have to completely concur with the F. I was hoping for something interesting, but it was awful. Where are Buffy and Angel when you need them?

My grades are pretty generous. Basically, if I'm going to watch another episode, it gets some sort of B. A B- means it has one more shot, a B means two or three, and a B+ means I'll keep watching until it pisses me off.

Moonlight is sort of worth watching for 10 minutes if only to have your jaw drop at how incompetent it is (especially compared to i>Buffy).

i can't believe you didn't go with the obvious pun and say "what the chuck?" instead of "what the fuck?". and i thought i knew you.
