I do like the word-of-the-year idea, but I'm still stubbornly resisting any grand edicts at the beginning of the year. Possibly because it's sort of a low-ebb time for me and if I pick a word I wind up hating, I don't want to be stuck with it for the year. (And stick with it I would; see also "stubborn.")
I wanted to thank you again for your comment on my blog post the other day. You might have planted a seed of a very big idea there. =)
Kane recommends taking time throughout the year to see if your word still has the same resonance that it did at the start of the year. There's no rule against changing your word midway through the year.
You could also choose a word for the year where the year starts with your birthday. That has a nice feel to it for me as well -- what I want my focus for this year of my life to be.
As for planting a seed, well, I don't think I told you anything you didn't already know. : )
