so...do i spend $2000 to get a new engine in my car or do i take out a $10,000 to get a new car?

man, i wish my dad was still around to help me with these things...

Here is the question to ask the Mechanic... "What else is wrong with the car? What else will I need to replace in the next year?" Have the Mechanic give you an estimate. Now you take that number plus the $2000 you have been quoted for the new engine, divide that by 12, you now have the monthly payment you can afford to be paying on a new car.
Now you have to ask if it is really worth it.

Also, go to more than one mechanic. Always good to get a second opinion. Furthermore, why spend $10,000 on another car when you can probably find a cheaper one that's still reliable.

I thought you were going to NYC. What's going on with that?
