Watchmen: Two Thumbs Down

I went and saw Watchmen tonight.  I hated it.  I thought it was ridiculous, confusing as all hell, and lacked any kind of element that I could connect to.  No, I haven't read the graphic novel, and after seeing the movie, I'm not really willing to go pick it up anytime soon.  I've read your reviews on it, LJ friends, and you are entitled to your ( Read more... )

That movie has been getting a lot of mixed reviews. Personally I enjoyed it.

What part of the movie did you find confusing?

I found a lot of it confusing, which, I was told by my fellow movie goers would have been cleared up if I had read the book. Like, the whole Nixon thing. I couldn't understand why Spectre had such a catharsis when she learned the comedian was her father. I later learned they left her rape and beating out of the movie, which would have been important to relating to that moment. There was a lot more I couldn't really "get" but I don't really care about recalling it... I'll just choose not to like it. And that's okay. Mike liked it, so we didn't completely waste our money.

Is okay, I haven't read it either.
I'm taking Joe up on his offer and reading it. I'm sure reading it will be way different than watching the movie.

It's dense enough as a film that it can be easy to get lost in. I found myself in no way sympathetic to Silk spectre really the second time around seeing it.

I certainly understand your issues with it. The watchmen wasn't a book for everyone. I can't expect everyone to get into the film.

It's all good. Sarah hated the book and thus won't see the movie.

However, I insist you give it a read just to say you have..it's kind of a requirement for us comic book geeks (kinda like Sandman, which I haven't read :P).

I don't think any film can really do it justice personally, and this one...despite some awesome moments and a perfect Rorschach...doesn't even come close.
