Mandolins

A mandolin is a small instrument. A little larger than a violin, strung with the same strings as a violin, but it looks like a miniture guitar. Why the interest in a mandolin? Hi, I don't have any mac and cheese comments, but after browsing around LJ for a bit, I thought I should say hi and ask if you have ever been to the Dance Flurry in Saratoga NY or the Old Songs music festival in Altamont Fairgrounds, NY? Places like that are great for hearing/playing/jamming/learning new instruments and all kinds of other stuff. I'm not sure if you're at Amherst or not, but there are all kinds of neat stuff in the Boston area for English Country Dance and Contra dance and such.
Quick bio: I'm have a masters degree from RPI (2002) in Physical/Analyt chemistry (solid-state NMR), oh, and I know Emily and Amy (and hence the link).
