A new episode of Alex Reviews Almost Nothing

Slings and Arrows almost makes me wish, almost , that I cared for straight theatre and Shakespeare and artsy stuff. Almost. For now I just like slings and arrows. Thanks ninagnome!

Unrelated- I may not be the connaisseur of music video games that some folks on my thedanlist, I mean friends list, I've just been introduced to the genre through GHIII for our ( Read more... )

Hey, I got name-checked. And for the record, I love Slings And Arrows too. (Is Nikki the one who first told me about it? I couldn't figure it out...)

I'm curious as to which tiers those shifts occurred; I think most of the boring stuff is at the beginning, and then there's one really weak tier later on (the fifth, which is saved by the sweet Guns N Roses encore).

As for the RB vs GH discussion, there's not much of one... hardcore twitch gamers and tend to prefer Guitar Hero, and everybody else (if they've played it) tends to prefer Rock Band. No filler in the main game, and there's enough downloadable stuff that you can choose the types of songs you like.

So yeah, get a 360. And Rock Band and BioShock and Portal.

Yeah, I think last night was the first time I bothered to figure out how to do that thedan's name here thing.

I think I'm talk just about my first impression when seeing the list of "that's a good song" vs "oh, okay, I'll get through that" vs "what? who?".

In that respect I'd say we were steadily building, peaked around tier 4 and 5, and tier 6 and 7 (which I played through last night) crashed and burned, and not in a rocking way. Looking at the final song list now, the final tier and most of the bonus tracks look to be more in the 'huh?' category also, except for the final encore.

I've basically just played through most of it once, on easy, never having touched anything even vaguely in this game style before, so I don't have much of an opinion on "song quality" in terms of playability and playing fun yet, I'm just getting the hang of it. But certainly just being familiar with the song helps, and and everything I hear about as new downloadable content for RB sounds cool, instead of 'is that a song?'.

My hypothesis could be that I just ( ... )

What did MY boss due this week? flaggday March 15 2008, 01:47:47 UTC
Well, today he flew back to California, and he's never coming back. 'Cause that's where he lives. And where he's always lived. Like when the company hired him, four months before announcing they were moving to California.

There were just no warning signs.

FYI, Rock Band has been announced for the Wii, so that may reduce your motivation to buy a 360. I think I saw the downloadable content is coming too, which is pretty much mandatory as far as I'm concerned. GHIII is reputed to be approximately one level harder than Rock Band; Rock Band expert =~ GHIII hard, with Rock Band being more picky about the timing and GHIII throwing harder to play patterns at you (The extra buttons are still introduced on the same levels).

In case you're wondering, I have PS2 versions if GH and GHII, plus xbox versions of GHII, GHIII and Rock Band. I actually have 4 plastic guitars in my apartment, to become 5 as soon as they release the additional GHIII guitars for the xbox.

My one concern about Rock Band is the noise the drums make, particularly carrying it through to your downstairs neighbors. I actually had mine come bang on my door (For quite some time, ahem!) last weekend, though to be fair we had the sound way up and were going quite nuts to "Brain Power".

thedan is right about Portal; Very fun. Possibly ( ... )
