I'm very, very sad to be posting this in memory of Julia A Case (8/28/1967 - 4/23/2008), fellow math major, juggler, and friend.
We transfered at the same time to Umass, spent orientation weekend together as math Alex, Julia and Clifton tried to teach me to juggle, and had lunch together weekly, but with her hearing problems, and that we were both soft spoken, lead to many misunderstandings until we started eating outside where it wasn't so noisy. We were very fond of complaining about the math department, and I remember her struggling with Abstract Algebra, but Prof.Norman encouraging her to skip the rest of undergrad and apply directly to grad school. She was that brilliant. I attended her wedding last spring and took pictures. I almost wish I hadn't given her all the negatives before she left for Portland, this is the only one I have:
