On the evening of August 27, 2006, Mars will be the closet it has been to earth in QUITE a long time, and to the naked eye should appear as large as the full moon. Yeah. So anyone know of a really good place in Massachusetts to check this out?

AGH. I bet someone here twenty bucks that it would be someone ELSE on my friends list to correct this blatant piece of bullshit. And this guy STILL hasn't posted. I need to stop saying "twenty bucks says..." in front of sentences.

I actually gave a talk today at WPI (hi again C!) to a bunch of teachers and used this powerpoint rumor as an example of two things:
(1) if it's in a power point email, it's likely wrong.
(2) seeing mars that large means one thing: armageddon.

Bad Astronomy

To summarize: It was a) in 2003, and b) no different than any other close approach, really.
