Paragraph 175. Who has heard of this? I am shocked that this completely appalling fact is constantly overlooked when discussing the holocaust and being a quarter German myself, my own nationality's history.

Paragraph 175 was part of the German Criminal Code and deemed any acts between males, consenting or otherwise, a crime. It originally read:

You didn't know that?! Yeah, it wasn't just Jews in the camps.. there were gypsies, homosexuals, mentally ill, and several other categories. They each had a different symbol on their uniforms (yellow star of david, etc) and homosexual's was the upside-down pink triangle.. which is why it is still used today alongside with the rainbow flag.

I knew about some groups of people other than the Jewish, but I'd never heard of homosexuals. I covered this pretty extensively in school and never once did I come across that fact. Mentally ill - yes, gypsies - yes, etc. Homosexuals? Never. I don't know why I'm surprised by this, I'm just more angered by the fact that it's never bloody mentioned. How, in all my research, was this never discussed?

I don't know - was your school "conservative" ? Maybe they didn't cover it for that reason.. I've always known it, but I forget whether I learnt it at school or personal research - i've always been interested in the holocaust, obviously, and have read several novels or RL accounts and maybe it was mentioned there... and in gay culture it's widely known that's where the pink triangle comes from.

Well, not particularly. We were a public school with no religious affliations, aside from a chaplain who liked to try and take over the school, but our actual curriculum I don't think was "conservative". I did a lot of research myself for assignments (I cared so much, I did an extra credit assignment despite sitting on an A for the class), and never came across this. As soon as I found out, I told Petey, Michael and Megan (I don't really expect her to know anything about homosexual history, however) and neither of them had heard this. It seems somewhere along the line, the education system has failed us all.

This genocide of homosexual men appears to be entirely overlooked, it would seem.

Yeah, pretty much - it seems like a lot of people don't even know about all the non-Jewish victims, are there were fucking millions of them - Soviet prisoners of war, Poles...freemasons, gypsies and mentally ill like Nat said, and it's so disgusting that people don't realise this.
