an integral in which the range of integration is specified: its value equals the area on a graph bounded by a curve, the x-axis, and two given ordinates

The numbers at the top and bottom of the S-curve are called the upper and lower limits of integration respectively. Any integral that has such limits of integration is called a definite integral.
