NaNoWriMo Poll 2009
It's October, which means it's time for a "what should I work on for NaNo" poll!
Ideas:
Space Opera
What I have so far: Our main character was exiled from her home world for being involved in an illegal technological experiment (her problem was being a little too good at what she does and a little too bad at wondering what exactly the purpose of her work was - she wasn't imprisoned, because it was successfully proven that she had no idea what she was doing, but she was still kicked off the planet). Some time passes, and she gets hired as an engineer on board a tradeship (OR ARE THEY?).
Eventual direction: f/f romance; her past comes back to haunt her in some fashion; space battles?
Steampunk sequel
What I have so far: The Windskipper takes on a passenger, who is on the surface a sexist jerk, but may have some ulterior motives. He thinks it's cute the way Gilbert is indulging Katherine's fantasies of being an engineer. Steampunk has had some bad press recently but I am kind of too in love with this universe to just dump it.
Eventual direction: Gilbert and William figure out that they are hopelessly in love; Katherine throws the passenger off the side of the airship (okay, maybe not literally). Some other plot required.
Superhero idea
What I have so far: The Government of Fictional Large Nation has a small team of superheroes who were liberated from an illegal medical experiment; one of them has been assigned to help a team of police officers with a case. NOTE: THIS IS A MYSTERY PLOT. THIS IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE FOR NANO.
Eventual direction: A lot of "getting to know you" contrasting personality type scenes; m/m romance; epic final showdown with antagonist?
Godswarrior
What I have so far: Our hero is an immortal former-assassin, inadvertently sworn to a Goddess (which is why he's immortal) who gets himself hired as a bodyguard for a group of travellers. Along the way their party acquires a healer-priest who is also sworn to the Goddess. He eventually gets himself embroiled in a rebellion. I have the beginning and end of this story in a document from 2003, but I think it's been long enough that I can legitimately do a rewrite without undue influence.
Eventual direction: fighting off assassins; possible m/m romance (it could end up just BFF gen); epic final battle in the capital city.
