recap for what it's worth

thursday night i ventured from harvard to salem and witnessed dan grund (yes his name is grund; and yes we call him grundle) play the craziest mad man with the most kickass moustache i've ever seen. STE's production of "dracula" was very entertaining and who knew the van helsing wasn't a broad, muscular man but rather an also almost insane scientist who's physical strength was easily defeated by two vampire vixens.

friday was another quick day as i got my annual checkup- my dr, dr kidd (he's ironically really old) has got to be one of the nicest old people i know past my papa, nana, and great gay floridian uncles. but i still was very shocked at the amount of blood they proceeded to draw from my arm- admittingly i told them that i know this would disable my arm for the rest of the night so i had they use my left so i could drink, drive, and high five like the rest of us. so onto finally grabbing some rest i took my leave to newb's in burlington to meet up with laco and his Philly/PA/Eastern crew whereupon i discovered some good grabs- talking heads, remain in light (that ended up not working in my computer) and a sly & the family stone disco compacto. my adventure then took a leap to chomsky's apartment north of davis sq. a fine place indeed where i remained reticent in my drinking but unreserved in my dialogue with chomsky's roommate ash and sister katie (?)- speaking of which i think i've met too many katies- and now everytime i forget someone's name when first being introduced (and then later re-introduced, thanks natalie) im always wrong when i say katie and wrong when i don't go for the obvious katie. so i drove outta there 'round midnight with tushar, alex, and amanda to b. hankison/elyse's joint to catch-up with 'dems peoples. my rice-a-roni SF conversation didn't last long as well as the weariness of fellow travellers. so off to douggie p. and then the quick jump to salem- but wait of course my lack of sleep has to be tested with 45 minutes of 2mph traffic as they shut down 2 of the 3 lanes of the frickin' tobin bridge- let's just say that rt. 1 and i aren't as good of friends as we could be. but with a pained head and laconic mouth i layed down.

thank you natalie for having red's sandwich shoppe- my steak and mushroom omelette helped the rainy day go down on saturday. as ive noticed whenever leaving salem its seems to be overcast and windy- like a adhd kid's mind. i dont really remember doing much on saturday but being excited about the broken social scene show. i met up with laco and a schism of the Philly/PA crew (juan) and found flippapelli and juan/laco's buddy. waiting under the awning though out of the rain on landsdowne laco was asked by a passerby if he was in the band- of course matt said "yeah, i play keyboards" which led the kid to ask if he could get him in the show;  granted that we were outside the venue- but we weren't smoking cigarettes or anything as well as laco being a tall young man not a squirrelly canadien. the kid became quite stearn. yeah whatevah. so here's the reward of it all: feist was fucking amazing- hands down the best female musician i've ever seen: her voice was both angelic and crude, her guitar skills were beautiful and rocking, and her seeming mastery of integrating technology (vocal loops mainly) was incredible. she sang a phrase, looped it, then replayed it as she sang a harmony to it and did it again until her voice had made a really amazing backbeat/vamp that she then still sang more beautifully over. i was in love as was fillypelly, laco, and juan. half-a-stock no lie- her butt was in some tight schpants. to top all of this broken social scene kicked ass with as many as 6 guitarists on stage at one time, a 5 member horn section, and two sweet singing ladies (feist with a crazy haired blonde). the paul rudd of music, jason collett, was a amiable and great leader of this ensemble cast of audiophiles. after this amazing show was over i talked to one of the trumpet players and he invited me to email arts&crafts if i wanted to play tuba/bari sax next time they made it around to boston for a few songs, apparently their canadien/montreal shows feature about 1/3 of the audience in attendance- i fuckin' hope so. skipped on over to lil stevie's for some half-lukewarm 'za were chris brooke made another appearance- when collett called for the house lights to be turned on at avalon, as laco, filly, and i spied over to the other side of the floor we immediately saw brooke with some indie ladies- an eternal show buddy. off to b.hankinson/elyse's again but then to 780 to chill with long time buddy g.yoder was a worthwhile and long-needed excursion. fillapelly's gone by now- odd.

sunday i went out to the fellsway and found the bear hill stone tower again- i really like it there its peaceful- perhaps running was also peaceful. well this week ill still be doing a lot of it.
