it's hard to pray for people
who hate you without reason.

Or if it is something you did, it's something totally and completely random. They most likely hate you because you are a constant reminder to them that they are sinful -- not necessarily because you've told them so, but just your presence, your mere existence is a testament to them. Or feels like it, anyway. When it becomes obvious that you don't hate them back, that will make them hate you all the more.

Welcome to being an authority figure. If you do it right, sinful people hate you.
