Indianapolis Monthly has a review of GenCon completely bashing gamers and such nerds in a manner that would make much more sense in the movie "Revenge of the Nerds". Ironically (or perhaps intentionally), the article also happens to have the same name as said movie. I've already written them a fairly daring response encouraging them to review ( Read more... )

It's a 2005 article, actually -- note that it talks about the release of Mage: The Awakening, and it came out last year.

Check out the cover page for this month's issue then. At this point, I'm assuming their data was from 2005 in order to be published in the August 2006 issue. Regardless, the article is copyrighted 2006.

...and? What's so great about basketball and beer? Since when did an RPG gone poorly end in riots, property damage, and death?
Though I agree that the article is a little critical and overly focused on sex, it just looks, to me, to be a magazine for a different crowd than ours. (Yes, they're apparently claiming to represent the city as a whole, but that doesn't mean that they are.) You could get something similar, I'm sure, if Gamers Monthly reviewed the Indy 500. Besides, I was always under the impression that most dorktastic darlings had a good sense of humor. ;)

I can only think that if the reviewer had ever played Car Wars, he'd be weighing the possibility that the vehicles would be much more efficient at winning the race if they had front and rear wing-mounted laser cannons. Having won a game with just such a modified formula-style vehicle, I'd have to agree with him. :)
